Handy household tips UTC handbook
Handy household tips UTC handbook
With way too much time on our hands for a few weeks some of us might be having a crack at some long overdue odd jobs around the house.
Please add your tips/handy hints, plus any old wives tales that somehow seem to work like magic.
Here's one to get us started: Bring back the sparkle to kitchen and bathroom taps:
soak an old facecloth in a small bowl of white vinegar then wrap the facecloth closely around the tap and leave overnight. In the morning remove facecloth and wipe clean. If the taps haven't been cleaned in half a century or more then you may need to use an old nail brush or similar. Then polish off with a soft cloth. Hey presto, sparkling taps, good as new. Rinse out facecloth in soapy water and open the windows to get rid of the smell of vinegar. A big plate of fishnchips may be a good alternative.

Spending too much on printer paper?
Simply photocopy one blank sheet of A4 paper 100 times and save yourself a fortune.
Oven gloves cut horizontally into strips and stitched at one end make excellent inexpensive sleeping bags for mice.
Don't spend money on expensive binoculars, simply move closer to whatever it is you wish to view.

What about if I just pour the lemonade on the floor in advance? Prevention is better than cure, surely.Bin Ont Turf wrote:Use fizzy lemonade on red wine spillages on carpets to prevent stains.

No good, you'd just attract wasps and bees to your carpet and red wine stains.

For a cut price address book, get hold of your telephone directory and cross out the names of all the people you don't know.

To keep wasps and bees away from your pre-emptive red wine spill carpet lemonade, simply replace all of the glade air fresheners in your home with wasp killing spray.Bin Ont Turf wrote:No good, you'd just attract wasps and bees to your carpet and red wine stains.

ALWAYS put a Toblerone in your basket or trolley in case there are no dividers at the checkout.
