Cash rebate on your council tax bill?
Cash rebate on your council tax bill?
This election seems to have been devoid of NEW ideas to improve the town/country.
My political party (The Democratic Republic of East Lancashire) would offer a 10% council tax rebate (£150 on a £1500 council tax bill) if you house / garden / yard is kept in a 'neat and tidy' condition.
The downside would be that the council would obviously need to keep a substantial cash reserve and would need to employ 'property inspectors'.
The upside (far outweighing the downside) would be a much smarter and more pleasant town to live in.

They do something similar in Minnesota if you recycle and help clear the snow in Winter with your own vehicle etc.

Re: Cash rebate on your council tax bill?
Seeing as I'm not having my garden waste bin emptied anymore, a rebate would be really nice seeing as I'm not getting the "full" service.
They can start with that.
Give it ten years (if that) and we will all be paying extra for the recycling AND the normal waste bins to be emptied. Well, you will. Mine will be dumped in the canal.
Edit to say I'll keep it fortnightly, before someone goes off on one.

They already do, you would be surprised at the number of people who seem quite content to live like pigs. Just go to Court on any Friday to see the number of people prosecuted because they seem either unable or unwilling to keep their property clean

Why should the council empty your garden waste? You should be thankful that they have done it for free for so many years.bobinho wrote:Seeing as I'm not having my garden waste bin emptied anymore, a rebate would be really nice seeing as I'm not getting the "full" service.

Throw you're garden waste on a local patch if grass/park.
Covers up the dog sh1t at the same time. Everyone's a winner.

No you don't, your council tax is for domestic waste. For too long people without gardens have been subsidising the rich!! Government for the many, not the few.bobinho wrote:I pay them to do it.

So they've been doing it for free all this time?
Aye, right.
Garden waste IS domestic waste. It it created in a domestic environment. As opposed to being created in a park, or canal bank, or from a registered business.

Re: Cash rebate on your council tax bill?
Unless your garden is inside your house it isn't household waste, which is the only waste that a council has to take for free. If you are rich enough to have a garden then you can chip in a bit extra to help those that can't. It's going to be Government for the many etc etc.

He he. Rich enough for a garden. Ur funny.
We will have to agree to disagree on this. Waste generated at domestic level will be domestic waste to me.
We may well have a govt for the many, but fortunately it will be Theresa leading it as opposed to the IRA supporter.
