What would you have done?

Post by bartons baggage » Fri Jun 02, 2017 6:14 pm

I called in Tescos after work for a few bits for tea and a bottle of Vodka, for a couple of Friday night drinks.
When i came to pay at the checkout i noticed it was a lot cheaper than i expected, they didn't scan the Vodka.
For a couple of seconds i wrestled with my conscience, and then thought balls to them they've conned me on numerous occasions.
Would you have told them about their mistake?. :D

How have they conned you on numerous occasions?

I think you're the lowest of the low, a thief, a robber, one of the dregs of our society

I reckon it will taste nicer!

He used to be a burglar, but packed it in because there were too many night shifts.

Not everything sets off the alarms.

It's usually bottles that have tags, electrical items, toys, games, DVDs etc, some foods like meats.

It isn't barcodes that set the scanners off, its impossible for them to do that.
You could in theory do your entire shopping and walk out of the door without paying and there's a high chance the alarms won't go off.
Just depends if the guards are paying attention.

Another trick used by shop lifters is the use of cool bags because the lining in them blocks the alarms from detecting the tags.

Working in retail you learn these things.

Got five bottles of wine for free the other day in sainos when they scanned the box instead of taking the bottle out and scanning it six times... I see it as a loyalty present for spending ten grand a year there or whatever.

Also got a free kettle from John Lewis once, a nice £45 present from them

Also they "refunded" something Hermes didn't deliver, but the store had sent me a replacement. £130 thank you and a £30 credit for "goodwill"

...well I ain't gonna tell em!

Edit: incase the fuzz is reading, this is all false and never happened ;)

. wonders how supermarkets prevent theft on the self scan system? He expects chancers must get away with loads using this service by them pretending they just didn't realise something didn't scan in correctly?

Chances are no one will ever know. the check out guy won't get in trouble and the store will just write it off as waste, no harm done

Tesco give so much **** away for free it's not funny! My old dear works there and as an example some old girl came in the other day and told mum she bought 2 bottles of red wine but instead of buying 5 quid bottles she only realized when she got home they cost her 9 quid each.

Mum had to call her supervisor, and even though the old woman didn't have the receipt or bottles the manager authorized a refund of 8 quid...wtf

This is called customer focus, Tesco are ubber good regards customer 'keep'. What they have zero tolerance against, like any multiple is theft, which in this case it obviously is.

Pay for it, otherwise the rest of us will have to.

I did the scan as you shop at Tesco. At the checkout I got distracted and forgot to pay. Two days later the local plod called round to my house to say Tesco had reported me! I had to go in and pay. Why they had to involve without first having tried to contact me I don't know.

Do you have to leave your name and address on scan and shop? I've never used it.

About 12 months ago I went into Lidl to buy a set of ladders they had on offer at the time, they were priced at something in the region of £40. I struggled with said set of ladders to the till as they weren't exactly what you'd call easy to carry. I also carried, in my 'free hand' to the check out a bottle of red wine. The lad on the till took the ladders from me, scanned it, then scanned the wine and said 'that's £3.99 please'.

I looked at him like, 'erm, noooo that's clearly not the total for a pair of (£40.00) ladders and a bottle of (£3.99) red wine'.

But I thought, 'ah, well fo ok it', paid the £3.99 and walked out, struggling with ladders and wine.

The ladders broke the second time I used them. Cheap 'made in china' shi te. I've a good mind to take them back and ask for a refund.

If it was the local shop I would have suggested you be honest and tell them.

As its Tescos and I have shares in them and I know who you are, I am telling them!
