Gary Mabbutt to have heart surgery having been taken into hospital suffering chest pain and breathlessness. Good luck to him.

He's certainly been through the mill.

"Following a bout of peripheral arterial disease, brought on by his diabetes. Following the surgery, he can no longer run or kick a ball."

Yep- He was a terrific player, plenty of skill & bags of guts. He seemed a well-balanced, unaffected, intelligent bloke off the pitch too. I hope his surgery is successful and improves his health.

A few years ago i owner a bakery shop. Used to see Gary a lot, he always wore shorts. His wife was a regular customer, decent people. Hope his surgery is a success.

Genuine good guy who I met at a young age whilst in his prime at spurs, through a diabetes UK event (fellow type 1 diabetic). Also nearly had to have his leg amputated a couple if years ago due to diabetes complications.

You would of thought he would have had the very best treatment throughout his career - but it now looks as though what he was told back then, and the treatment, differs somewhat from what is available today.

Spurs have just confirmed that the surgery was successful and that he's stable and recovering in hospital
