Leaving a man on the line

Post by joey13 » Sun Jun 11, 2017 4:55 pm

At free kicks from outside the box , never understood why managers don't do this , position a player on the line near the uncovered post surely would make it harder to score , particularly yesterday when the free kicks were nowhere near the top corner , don't recall seeing it done , anyone know different or can see a problem?

Because the opposition would be able to crowd/unsight the keeper
without fear of being offside.

John'sroseyspecs thinks we should all post in the third person.

So what though, it would still make it more difficult to score, which is the objective, No?

Just put the wall on the line and be done with it!

Would no wall be better? Being serious. Allow the keeper a clear view and release all defending players

When I had a brief stint of keeping in the Sunday league a few year back I never had a wall for free kicks as I backed myself to save a shot from outside the area.

In pro football the opposition might make a wall to block the keeper though.

No wall? With people like Dele Alli and Hazard and the like around?
Hahahahahaha!

Why not just let em walk it into the net?

The wall was a radical idea in 1958 i think. Time for radical thinking! Just kick Alli and Hazard up the arse

What I did find was players tended to shoot more central to get the shot on target, rather than be embarrassed about aiming for a top corner and it going wide.
I suppose it put more pressure on the free kick taker.
