Fridge Freezer recommendations please!
Fridge Freezer recommendations please!
My 18 year old fridge freezer packed up yesterday well the freezer part did at any rate and I now have a lovely wet kitchen carpet and the alarm light of course on permanently.
I have a budget of say up to £550 to make sure I hopefully get a decent one and have already got my eye on a Bosch fridge freezer from John Lewis.
Can anyone recommend any particular brand to go for and what brand not to buy and maybe a particular model of fridge freezer?
Thanks

Re: Fridge Freezer recommendations please!
TIP......Whichever brand you get, insist they throw in a five year warranty.
Even the top brands can suddenly jack in after eighteen months or so.
And the frost free ones are expensive to fettle, apparently.
The ones with a drinks dispenser in the door are handy in this weather.

Get your model number and compare it on AO.com.
Worth noting Hotpoint appliances come with a 10 year parts warranty these days.

Don't think I'd touch Hotpoint for anything after their fire problems recently.claretdom wrote:Get your model number and compare it on AO.com.

My Hotpoint is still going strong 11 years later, and I've moved house 4 times so it's been thrashed about.

Everyone will have their own opinion, but having dealt with them on a trade basis for over 25 years I am happy to use them still.

Re: Fridge Freezer recommendations please!
Make sure the freezer drawers are thick and pliable.
My AEG ones have all snapped because they can't deal with being frozne.
Also the fridge is crap, it cant handle having much in it.
I also have a hob which is so badly designed that pans keep falling off it and the flame going out.
The oven is alright though.
Thank god I didn't get the washing machine is all I'll say.
Bosch every time from now on.

We've chanced our arm with a Montpellier F/F, and we're pleased with it so far.
We're over the moon with our AEG range as well.

Re: Fridge Freezer recommendations please!
Ive recently got a HiSense one from AO.com. Happy enough with everything so far. It offered the best 'capacity' for the price which was my main purchase choice.

Avoid belling. No space, badly thought out, noisy and freezer drawers are brittle.

Thanks guys!
I think I'm going for this Bosch one from John Lewis and may well pay the extra to have it guaranteed for 5 years

Re: Fridge Freezer recommendations please!
Had our Bush fridge/freezer for four years. Does the job. If I do have one complaint, it's a noisy bugger. Due to work patterns, we tend to sleep on the sleeper sofa during the week and it's near the kitchen. Sometimes think it's going to take off with some of the strange sounds coming from it.

Re: Fridge Freezer recommendations please!
Go onto eBay and search for Elekdirect.
They sell brand new fridge freezers that may have some cosmetic damage. I bought a cracking black Samsung one 15 months ago, with full Samsung warranty for about £190 inc delivery (instead of £559 and it just had a one small mark on the door - nicely hidden by a fridge magnet)
I think that they are based in Bolton.
If you're interested the model was Samsung RB29FSRNDBC. I'm happy with it.

Re: Fridge Freezer recommendations please!
Continuing the Iluva64 theme, I would definitely buy one which can be stripped bare inside and with a little seat for you, in special weather conditions - like now!

Police said today a Hotpoint fridge freezer started the Grenfell Tower fire. (BBC)UpTheBeehole wrote:Don't think I'd touch Hotpoint for anything after their fire problems recently.
Anyone who has a white one, serial no. FF175BP or a grey one, FF175BG, is advised to contact the
company or retailer for advice. (The serial number is behind the salad box, apparently.)

Had this issue with a Tumble Dryer I recently bought. They put out an emergency announcement. Didn't put the serial number somewhere sensible like what possibly could be safe from fire, like somewhere safe like a Hand manual, but put it where it could and would probably be on fire! In the drum!ElectroClaret wrote: (The serial number is behind the salad box, apparently.)

Serial numbers are unique so can't feasibly be included in the user manual, but the user manual does tell you where to find the serial number and hotpoint put their serial numbers in two places - around the cavity or inner door trim and on the back.
Mel - unless you really need a 7 footer then this is better value - http://www.euronics.co.uk/refrigeration ... vw35g/3197" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and you can buy it from an independent retailer rather than a faceless corporation.
But the general advice given is sound - get whatever you can afford with the longest manufacturers warranty. Ideally avoid paid for extended warranties as it often comes mired in red tape using firms like Domestic and General, Retra or Serviceforce - i.e there's a middle man involved which often slows things down.
Always register your appliance
Don't get too hung up on frost free though - much more to go wrong and therefore more likely to fail, potentially more dangerous (see Grenfell) and you'll still have to defrost it every now and again anyway due to how they work. That said, it is difficult now to buy a static fridge freezer from the higher end manufacturers.

I don't see how someone in the Warehouse can't write down a Serial Number on the manual prior to sealing. Some bugger has to pack it!duncandisorderly wrote:Serial numbers are unique so can't feasibly be included in the user manual, but the user manual does tell you where to find the serial number and hotpoint put their serial numbers in two places - around the cavity or inner door trim and on the back.

It's not like you would have been looking for the serial number when it's on fire.ExistentialWanderer wrote:Had this issue with a Tumble Dryer I recently bought. I can't recall a time where serial numbers were on the manual. Model numbers certainly, but not serial numbers.
