Argos game? Do you have to write down what you want on your ticket and take it to the counter?

One mistake could lead to a catalogue of errors.

Many years ago when I lived in Canada I supported Ottawa Rough Riders, the days when Russ Jackson was quarterback, what a team they where. Still having trouble with the red-blacks or black reds just can't get my head round the new name. Who are the Argos playing?

Sorry, CT, I don't get your reference. Must be something to do with fast food. But the Argos pre-date the Clarets by 10 years, and are the oldest professional sports organization in North America. Unfortunately, the CFL has suffered in recent years, just like rugby league in England. Fewer than 10,000 actually showed up to see the home team get stomped by the Calgary Stampeders, 41-24, with Toronto's starting quarterback, Ricky Ray, being seriously injured in the 3rd quarter.

Argos were originally attached to the Argonaut Rowing Club, and their colours of Double Blue reference both Oxford and Cambridge Universities, so the originators were obviously a well-heeled bunch.

Claretsparky, the days of Russ Jackson and the Ottawa Rough Riders (not to be confused with the Saskatchewan Roughriders) are considered to be the high point of the CFL. Sell-outs across the league. The wide-open aggressive style of the CFL, compared to the "3 yards and a cloud of dust" style in vogue in the NFL in those days, were always points of comparison. There was, and is, an import limit in the CFL, and most Canadian players held down full-time jobs off of the field. Jackson was a secondary school principal. Others were bankers or insurance men, because they all held university degrees. But the stars, especially the quarterbacks, were almost always American, which is why Jackson was so special. I remember it well. My Argos could never beat those Riders.

He's 37, and still one of the best in the CFL.

They where happy times at Lansdown Park, the throwing arm of Russ Jackson to Grey, Washington et al nearly every game a winner. The only teams I seam to remember who ever gave the Rough Riders a hard time were the Tiger Cats and that other lot from Saskarchewan.

Don't forget Ronnie Stewart and Marjene Atkins for your Riders. And Bernie Faloney was a great QB for Hamilton.
