Indeed. Not my cup of tea over the last year or so but a man who has been a genuine talent since popular entertainment began.
Let's keep this thread respectful - if you've nowt positive to say about the guy - please don't bother posting.

Met him on the bus once in Buckinghamshire where I lived, turns out he lived around the corner. After getting over the fact he caught the bus he calmly said. 'I have a bus pass now so I thought I'd use it'. A real gent. Legend is bandied around too much these days but he deserves the accolade.

Funnily enough. He got on the bus and was quite unassuming. Of course people recognised him and he did pipe up with that phrase after he realised people recognised him. Thereafter he just sat on the bus and enjoyed idle chatter with the passengers. No airs nor graces. No 'look at me I'm famous' and the 'I have a bus pass, so why not use it' pretty much summed him up as to why he was so well loved.

Went on a trip from Burnley Golf Club to play at Wentworth about 10 years ago. We were waiting on one of the tees and he rolled up in is buggy to say hello. Lovely bloke took great interest in where we played and where we were from . Very chatty and stayed to watch us all tee off . One of the younger lads smashed his drive miles down the hole but unfortunately it hooked left out of bounds into some very posh houses garden . Quick as a flash he started up his buggy and set off down the hole shouting back that the ball was in his garden and he was claiming it :D

Let's have a look at the old scoreboard - 89, a decent innings.

Talented man. Never met him but I know people who have and said he was a gentleman.

Not many entertainers have had a career as long as his.

I remember being sat in my grandmas living room watching him on various games shows. Fond memories. He was entertaining to all generations.

Micheal Barrymore had the same appeal but that went pear shaped

Awful singer though!

Didn't do it for me at all entertainment wise, but he made a lot of people happy.

Making a lot of people happy makes it a happier world for everyone else.

He certainly had a face for comedy, very Sammy Davis Jr.

I wasn't daft about him if I am honest but he was the undoubted game show King. Never quite liked his Anthony Newly type singing, his corny gags or his spontaneous tap dance but he had a really uncanny rappor with an audience. We will probably never see his like again.

RIP.

:o That was uncanny I clicked back to see your linky pop up at the same time.

Some good send up's over the years. I love this one on Fantasy Football. I'll have to put up the whole show as I can't find anything shorter. Footage starts at 4.55.
