Rules to make sports more interesting

Post by Inchy » Tue Sep 05, 2017 9:09 am

I commented on the lower house thread about playing cricket in the rain to make it more interesting.

Got me thinking what other rule changes to sports would make them more interesting.

Heres a few I have thought of.

Horse racing- you cannot finish the race on the same horse you started on

golf- you only have 5 minutes to finish the hole. Ever minute over is a shot penalty

Long jump- the first few meters is of the pit has hot coals on it to add to the tension

Rugby- play with a round ball, you cannot use your hands, you have to kick or head the ball. The posts have a net at the bottom and the tall bits of the posts are removed

Hungry Hippos on the cushions of snooker tables. Two games going on - snooker players trying to pot balls, Hungry Hippos players trying to eat them. Same point value for balls applies but the hippos don't have to follow a red with a colour.

Football - physios allowed to run onto the pitch to treat the dying / severely injured footballers we see on a weekly basis. Net result - players not faking injury as play will continue. Actual serious injuries a la David Bust, play stops.

I remember the tutor on Art Foundation urging folk to destroy a pencil to 'find out what it is.'

NO. Just say NO.

I always thought the Olympics would be better if everyone took performance enhancing drugs.

That'd be fairer and some of the races and jumps would be epic :)

All national sports teams are to be selected by a random draw, like jury duty. It would make the Olympics much more interesting to see Big Kev from Sunderland representing the UK in the high jump

Football - ban penalties and remove the offside rule, an extra point if a team finishes 3 goals clear

F1 - just remove all the rules. Let them race and let them build faster cars

Russell Howard was on the radio yesterday; his idea was for a football team to have ten from the squad and the winner of a fan raffle. Imagine nodding in a Robbie Brady corner for a last minute winner at Old Trafford (or Ewood, shoukd we be unfortunate enough to play there again)?

In the Stone Ball moving in the World's Strongest Man competition, Ken Dodd lookalikes can cone on and tickle the contestants under the arms with comedy outsized tickle-sticks.

Twix can be a maximum of 50p for a standard one, and 80p for a twix extra.

Also make it mandatory for any hotdogs, to have the crunchy dried onions on!

In cricket, you can throw the ball as you wish and a fielder can obstruct the batsmen - like British Bulldogs

I seriously think that would make it better.

In Polo make the Mallet 12" long maximum . The players can then ride on the side of their horse like the Indians did in old western films.

Football teams can only be composed of overweight people, as they lose the pounds and become athletic, they retire.

Pay them the same, and watch the country lose weight.

Also there will be far far bigger scorelines.

Football - snipers to be placed on all terrace roofs. Should a player be adjudged to have dived, or gone down like they've been shot - they will actually get shot.

1. Boxing - 80% tax on all gate receipts or whatever they are called and on all TV broadcasting deals.

2. All women's football teams being allowed to play a male goalkeeper.

3. Tennis. All competitions banned unless at least 25% of the competitors entered are not white.

4. Cricket. MCC members are electrocuted in the drinks breaks (or if they fail to join in a Mexican wave) when a test is played at Lords.

5. Running races (up to 400m). Runners don't have to stay in lanes, and opponents teammates can put off runners by throwing wet fish at them.

6. Horse racing. Jockeys that punch horses in the head either get a 4 year ban rather than 4 days or whatever it was, or are put in the stocks for 4 days.

Introduce more interesting spectator events at the Olympics such as catching the javelin and heading the shot. Medals can be awarded posthumously. No training will be required and the events will be open to all comers wanting to take part in the Olympics. Judging will be similar to the method used in ice skating and diving with at least a Russian and Chinese representative and perhaps to make them feel more wanted a North Korean judge.
