Dyche got it totally wrong today. he should have gone 2 up front and give it a real good go. disappointed. we could have put it right up them.

We should be going to places like that and ramming our brand of football down their necks.
He's done well for us but now we need some one to take us to the next level.

Totally agree but he should've took risks at 0-1 not from kick off. Disappointing to lose a game of football and not even try to score a goal. We should've took massive risks and thrown men forward at 0-1, if we ship another 3-4 because of it then so be it.

Re: too defensive today
It's not that straightforward though. Do you look to score and risk getting absolutely royally bonked, or do you sit back and sneak a goal on a set piece? It's also about player morale and the game(s) after today. Lose 7-0 and it can impact your team for weeks to come. Lose 3-0 and it's not so bad and it's easier and quicker to get 'back to the drawing board'.KRBFC wrote:Maybe I'm genuinely thick because I expected my football team to try and score a goal in a game of football. You think with one variable. Managers like Sean Dyche don't. Which is why they're managing clubs like Burnley.

I'm sick of this anti football we play,as fans we deserve more.
It seems Dyche is found wanting again, this is why no top 6 team will go near him.
It would be best if he moved on then the club can do the same

We could go about the way Watford and Stoke did and be out of the game by 40 minutes or we could sit-back and hope to nick an equaliser which we did until some poor defending from a corner, maybe if Wood doens't go off injured we get the equaliser.

all im saying is that we might as well have gone for it without having 10 men behind the ball all game. might have had a better chance of getting a result. we were just waiting on them to score. chance wasted in my book.
Re: too defensive today
We had a spell at the start of the second half when we looked the more likely to score.
Not much you can do against a side like them though.

Re: too defensive today
Instead we were out of the game from minute 1 with no intention of ever really taking a risk, I understand the cautious approach at 0-0 hoping to bore City into scoring a goal for us but at 0-1 with 30 left we still sat back and waited for them to score again. I'd have liked a positive approach at 0-1 with 30 left like we did at Spurs, we needed a goal to even have a chance of getting anything yet we continued with 10 men behind the ball, scared to open up and take the risk.KefkaClaret wrote:We could go about the way Watford and Stoke did and be out of the game by 40 minutes or we could sit-back and hope to nick an equaliser which we did until some poor defending from a corner, maybe if Wood doens't go off injured we get the equaliser.

Re: too defensive today
There's a reason why we are posting on forums and why Sean Dyche and his players were playing at the Etihad earlier today. None of us are good enough to play football to those sorts of standards (Premier League).
We should be happy to lose to Man City 3-0 away from home. This isn't fast food where you can pay a price and avoid the washing up, this is Burnley FC punching way above their weight against the Premier League's best. Enjoy the day out.
For the resources we have, we must be one of the best teams on the planet right now. I much prefer my team now having a regular slot on Match of the Day at the weekend and Rovers being satisfyingly closer in the football pyramid to Accy Stanley. When I was growing up, it was us who had no shirt sponsor and them who were in the Premier League.
The team spirit Sean Dyche has generated amongst this group is phenomenal. We will not win every game. United lost at Huddersfield today and that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Instead of focusing on perceived 'negatives' maybe focus on our reality - a small town from Lancashire who are rubbing shoulders with some of the world's best.
Sean Dyche is the best thing that's ever happened to this club in my lifetime. To those who want him out, be careful what you wish for. He's a future Clough/Fergie, a very astute football manager and person besides.

Re: too defensive today
No one likes losing. But there is a slight delusion of grandeur when you honestly think we should be beating Man City at their home ground? Don't you think we've rode our luck already away from home? The law of averages has to kick in at some point and we will lose a game away from home. That's not 'being too defensive' that's just life.
Only the best don't lose, and there aren't many. Arsenal 2002 and still hasn't been done since? So yes, I can take a loss against the leaders of the league in their own back yard, dust myself off and hope we kick on again.
If that constitutes being a 'prick', don't let me burst your bubble.

Re: too defensive today
Utter ******** this thread. We pressed them hard in their third and denied them space. We could have gone 1-0 up. We did end up playing most of thr game with only 1 striker in the match squad.
We were srull in that game until probably 60 mins when City started to click, firces a goal from a set piece and then the games gone.
We had Barnes up front alone for most of the game ffs. We are hardly going to stuff them that way are we?

Keeping it at 1-0 (and that penalty decision was contentious) until 70 + minutes suggests to me that SD got it spot on.

We had Barnes upfront on his own is exactly my point, too defensive, no support for the striker. Unwilling to take the risk needed to try and get an equaliser.

Can't fault that today at all. Obviously a dodgy penalty, goals 2 and 3 were just sheer quality from city you have to hold your hands up and applaud. you could argue Defour should have cleared it for their 2nd but it was one of them bullet headers with perfect trajectory that there wasn't time to react.
I thought we caused them some issues and should have had a penalty ourselves.

The game plan was spot on. It almost came off. We caused them one or two problems and also contained them for a long period of the game.
This side have hammered every other bottom half team so far. That we were still in the game with injuries to 4 of our 5 forwards until the 2nd goal is worth something.
Ask Liverpool how well their plan of having a go went.

Re: too defensive today
The biggest problem we had today was that neither Defour or Cork were at their passing best.
This led to us giving it back to them before we'd reached the halfway line. Then we were screwed.
No shame in losing to that side.

Beggars belief that people are calling for Dyches head !
Do any of these loons seriously think we had the quality to"give it to em"? The honest toil of the scottys,Ben mee's Barnes et al are hardly the players to rattle Man City We'd have been eaten alive if we'd gone toe to toe utterly smashed .
If and when we can ever afford world class players then the manager might be able to be less pragmatic against the Spurs /lpool and citehs of this world

Absolutely I believe our players are good enough to score a goal against any team. What else do you suggest we do at 0-1 with 30 minutes left? Most fans on here have no ambition, they're delighted we sat back and accepted defeat with 30 minutes left.AlargeClaret wrote:Beggars belief that people are calling for Dyches head !
