Barriers to provide extra security at Turf Moor..
Seems like a sensible idea and good for us to be the first Premier League side to do this...innovative thinking.
Terrorists can strike at any targets, and crowds leaving football grounds [especially at bigger clubs than us] would appear to be a pretty easy target.

Just seen this on facebook and some people are having a go at the club about it. I imagine they have done this on advice from the police. Its hardly a nuisance and could potentially save lives

Re: Barriers to provide extra security at Turf Moor..
Just curious, why would anyone have a go at the club about it?
Can't be a huge expense, you can't drive down there anyway, and however unlikely it might just come in handy one day.

Re: Barriers to provide extra security at Turf Moor..
Seems a good idea but why only at both ends of Harry Potts Way? What about Brunshaw Road?

Well done indeed. If something had happened and the club had the chance to do something but didn’t they would be heavily criticised.
Re: Barriers to provide extra security at Turf Moor..
Moaning that it will take longer until the buses can go up Harry Potts way. Not sure why as they don't take long to shift.

I don't know if this area is considered unusually high risk, but they search bags on the way into Blackburn Arena for ice hockey nowadays.

Doesn't matter what the club does or doesn't do - always people wanting to have a go at them.NottsClaret wrote:Just curious, why would anyone have a go at the club about it?
Can't see what the problem is - the only obstruction they can possibly cause is to prevent traffic from driving down a road that is closed in any case. On match days, Harry Potts Way ceases to be a public highway from, I think, two hours before kick off and becomes part of the footprint of the ground. It returns to being a public highway some time after the game.

Re: Barriers to provide extra security at Turf Moor..
I think it does stand for Turf Moor but it is an independent company who carry out the traffic type duties at a number of clubs. They are run by a bloke called David McAtamney who Paul Fletcher introduced to Burnley FC, he'd worked with him at Coventry.Winstonswhite wrote:Who are StadiumTM? Does it stand for Turf Moor?

More often than not it would be the people moaning about it who would be the first to criticise if nothing was done and an accident had taken place.

Maybe they should put some around the car park behind the JH stand to stop those “trying” to leave early from blocking the walkways

Very sensible and maybe, just maybe, they will prevent a loss of life through the actions of an idiot or worse, a terrorist.

Has anyone noticed the positioning of the police vehicle on Harry Potts way before the last few matches, straddled across the road ... It made me wonder then if they had any intel on possible vehicle attacks ?

The StadiumTM stewards were pathetic at the Padiham remembrance day. Radios going loud througout the two minute silence.

Went to Will Smith concert on Blackpool prom over bank holiday weekend. There were 2 OSU vans strategically parked on the main road plus a very large cherry picker which would make it difficult for anyone planning to drive into the crowd. I like to think it is more precautionary than anything else but sadly it does get you thinking.

All very well but wait until the first ****** up/ clumsy/ retard trips over one and tries to sue.
Also - will they have the club crest and can I buy one from the club shop for the end of my drive?

Also noticed that just put it down to bad parking! Interesting we are first club to do it. As for people moaning we could unveil a double swoop of Messi and Ronaldo and someone in Burnley would moan.willy wanka wrote:Has anyone noticed the positioning of the police vehicle on Harry Potts way before the last few matches, straddled across the road ... I'd prefer it if they turned their radios off for the 2 minutes and crossed their fingers in the hope that they didn't have any matters of security to attend to.Quickenthetempo wrote:The StadiumTM stewards were pathetic at the Padiham remembrance day. I know you're only looking for a bite but a memorial event in a small quiet town with roads blocked off won't be a priority for a terrorist attack.
If they were professionals they could of wore ear pieces instead of spoiling the main tribute of the day.

Well done to the club. I walk down Brunshaw Rd for games and last time I was home it crossed my mind how much terrorist damage could be done by renting a vehicle and ploughing into a match day crowd.

Maybe it is just me, but thoughts like that never enter my head, but there is no doubt that security is being tightened up at football grounds.Oshkoshclaret wrote:last time I was home it crossed my mind how much terrorist damage could be done by renting a vehicle and ploughing into a match day crowd.

It's very sad that this is deemed necessary and shows that for all the bluster about "carrying on" Islamic Terrorism impacts all our lives.

Football match is a prime place for an attack, especially before after a game where there is a high concentration of people. I’m amazed it’s not happened yet. I know the dude tried it with a bomb in France but messed it up.

Extra vigilance needed in the run up to Christmas, more especially in shopping
centres and malls.
I'll be honest though, I was in the Trafford Centre yesterday and it never once
entered my head.

Can’t see anything wrong with this, I must admit it had crossed my mind that people were particularly vulnerable on Harry Potts way. However, I assume it’s StadiumTM who are responsible for putting the diversion signs in place at the top of ridge avenue a good 3 hours before the diversion is in force? That needs looking at
Re: Barriers to provide extra security at Turf Moor..
Looking at the width between each barrier, it looks like there could be some jostling and bumping, when supporters leaving the Bob Lord stand walking through the barriers up towards Brunshaw Rd are met by people coming from the JH and JMc trying to get through them onto Harry Potts way at the same time. Everybody's in a hurry to get to their cars and get away from the ground and will be eager to get through them, without giving an inch, which could lead to friction.
Perhaps there could be a one way only system introduced to half of them up the road and half down, to stop crowd build up and it may aid wheel chair users. With stewards on hand to police it.

Great idea!
I am however, still concerned about a vehicle coming from the park view chippy towards the squash of people
behind the Bee Hole (JM)/Fan Zone after a match. There isn't even anywhere to get out of the way!

The only possible problem I can see is Emergency vehicles leaving the Turf. But for the amazing care the club showed my dad a few years ago and then the speed they then got him to hospital he would have died at his beloved Turf - hopefully the barriers include some way of being dropped in minutes because that too could be the difference between life and death for someone.

Just the way of the world now I'm afraid. A lot of clarets probably wouldn't have noticed due to the way we are bussed into Ewood, but as I live in Darwen I got tickets in the home end so I could walk to the game for the cup recently. There was a considerable armed police presence at either end of the A666 roughly 1/2 mile in each direction from Ewood, I'm no security expert but I would say they were there to shoot any potential terrorists using cars as weapons.willy wanka wrote:Has anyone noticed the positioning of the police vehicle on Harry Potts way before the last few matches, straddled across the road ...
