Peter Noble - Today’s programme
For those of you who buy a matchday programme there’s a small article about my uncle peter.
The club has also invited my auntie as a guest to the match.
The club has been amazing since his passing last may.
Good luck today.

Re: Peter Noble - Today’s programme
Jacka; I loved watching your Uncle play as he was a true competitor with an immense amount of skill. He was also a gentleman who I had the pleasure to meet and have a natter with when he ran his stall in the market.
Best wishes.

Peter Noble a true gentleman. Watched him play for us and later visited his stall on the market and bought Burnley sarves and badges from him. He had time for everyone who visited his stall. Hope the Mighty Clarets get a result today and we'll say that ones for Peter Noble!

Re: Peter Noble - Today’s programme
I'm too young to have seen Peter Noble play but I do remember seeing him and talking to him briefly at his stall in the market.
It's odd to see your own Dad star-struck and acting as if he's in the company of a famous celebrity but I was left in no doubt that the man who owned the stall was a fantastic football player in his day.
And he was nice, polite and friendly too. I only wish I could have seen him play live.

I've said it once, and I will say it again. The best all-round player I have seen play for Burnley in 45 years of watching the Clarets. He was a warrior, a fantastic captain and a match-winner all rolled into one. He could play anywhere. The reception he received from the crowd a few years ago when he was a half-time guest said it all. He was my hero.

Jacka, I once had the honour of shaking your uncle's hand some 40 years ago. Not only was he a great player, but a great man. Not many can have that said about them. My family comes from the general Sunderland area (Alston-on-Moor), so it a double privelege for me. All the best to you and your family.

His first club was Consett FC, which is not too far from Alston (2 or 3 valleys over, I believe).

Re: Peter Noble - Today’s programme
Make no mistake, your Uncle was a hell of a player for us. Along with many others, I used to shop at his stall on the market for no other reason than it was Peter Noble, ex Burnley player. They say never meet your idols. I say ********. He was such a genuine nice guy who would always make time to chat. Too much time if you asked my mum, who would be waiting to carry on shopping.Jacka wrote:For those of you who buy a matchday programme there’s a small article about my uncle peter.

Yes, he left (to Blackpool, of all places), but he came back. Burnley was in his heart, just like another guy from the north-east, Harry Potts.

Loved burnley he did.
Re: Peter Noble - Today’s programme
I know he had a few pints before one of the half timed draws years ago. He liked a pint, we all do from up here.Uwe Noble wrote:I've said it once, and I will say it again. Anyway I think he walked around the ground clapping the fans etc, it was time for 2nd half to kick off and he was still on his way around being applauded by the fans.
Some great stories and he was brilliant at telling them. He would of been good at the aftervdonner circuit.

My first Claret hero. He played for us like a fan would've. Gave everything, in every game, and no shortage of skill too.
Always bought my BFC stuff from Peters stall. Always a nice bloke.
Top fella, very much respected and missed round these parts.

Re: Peter Noble - Today’s programme
I used to watch him when he first came to Burnley and when he had his sport shop I bought quite a lot of sports gear and equipment, When I wanted a squash racket he actual took time to discuss the game of squash, how I held the racket and even did some practice swings with it before i bought it. he was a great bloke to talk to with a good knowledge on all sports.

Can only agree what everybody says about Peter.
Always a crowd favourite and 100% player.
Don't make them like that anymore, sadly missed!!

Re: Peter Noble - Today’s programme
He was unique IMHO and could play in today's team no problem. For younger fans who didn't see him I think Defour is similar.

Re: Peter Noble - Today’s programme
I first saw him playing for Swindon in the league cup semifinal - we lost at home, won away and lost the replay. Swindon were Div 3 at the time but went on to win the final.
Noble was the class player in that team - scored their winner in the first leg at Turf Moor - and it was a fantastic signing for us. I still regret that he had such a good game for them though, a trip to Wembley really looked on the cards.
However he was fantastic for us and it was a privilege to buy shirts from him after he retired - you needed to allow a good hour to buy anything though as he would be very happy to talk football, clarets etc all day.
Good footballer, great man. You cannot always say that.

Re: Peter Noble - Today’s programme
He had the skill of Defour, but was much more mobile, and could play any position on the field. Add to it that he was the best bloke ever, and you get why every true Burnley fan absolutely loved him.

Re: Peter Noble - Today’s programme
Made his debut as an emergency full-back, if I recall correctly. We needn't have worried; he was good at that, too. A leader, a goalscorer, combative, tireless midfielder, a respected gentleman of the game. Offered and provided so much for so many. Unique? Yes, I would say so.

That’s right , Mick Docherty got injured in the first game of the season away to Sheffield Utd , Peter stepped in and made it look like he had played there all his career.Silkyskills1 wrote:Made his debut as an emergency full-back, if I recall correctly. I think that he would have made a tremendous manager, but he never got the chance. I find it odd that Paul Fletcher went much further than he did in management. It's all political.

I remember the day in September 1975 when Uwe scored all 4 in a 4-4 draw at The Turf against Norwich. I'd been playing golf at Lee-on-the-Solent and was in the clubhouse watching the scores come in. I seem to recall Peter scoring a hattrick in our previous home game.
