Berlin Advice
Berlin Advice
Hi All,
Off top Berlin on Thursday for a few days and just wondered if any one had any advice on the must see and do's? Already booked into the Reichstag and got a city tour booked. Also, thinking of a day trip out, maybe to Weimar or Potsdam, has anyone been and is it worth it?
Thanks in advance

Checkpoint Charlie and areas of the wall are still up. If you're a fan of David Bowie you can get tours around Hansa Studios where he recorded his best work according to some.

Re: Berlin Advice
Went to Berlin for a few days just before Christmas-great city.
Don't know if the city tour you have booked is on foot but if so it's a great way to see the highlights and get your bearings.
Brandenburg gate, Reichstag, memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe and memorial museum, the 'Fuhrerbunker' site are all close to each other
Checkpoint Charlie is a bit of a tourist trap but just a few minutes walk away towards the Topography of Terror is an original section of the wall
You can get unlimited 1-3 day transport passes for travelling around and the transport system is very efficient and easy to use (about 7 euros per day).
The Tiergarten is also worth a look and it's worth going to the top of the Victory statue (or' chick on a stick' as the Americans called it after the war)Great views over the city from there and also from the top of the TV tower near Alexanderplatz.
There are dedicated trips available that visit the infamous '3rd Reich' sites and Sachenhaussen concentration camp is within easy reach and there are tours that go there if that kind of thing is of interest to you.

I went last summer for a few days - plenty to see and do and please see attached website for tours - we stayed in MITTE area and could walk to a lot of destinations but the bus tour is a must and can hop on and hop off.

If you like history then Berlin is full of it, we really enjoyed our 2 weeks there last year.

If you’re walking down a dark alley and someone shouts "do you want a frankfurter" then run.
