I went to that game and the journey up from Milton Keynes seemed to take an age.

If I remember correctly the stand we were in had a lot of tin in it and our supporters were constantly banging on it making a lot of noise.

Great atmosphere!

Only 11 at the time but was amazed by the number of clarets! My abiding memory is coming off the game and Burnley fans looking through peoples front windows in the houses near the ground to try and find out the full time results!

Really? I know it was great fun taking over three sides of Brunton Park and the atmosphere before the match was amazing. But the reality is we played terribly that day, could easily have lost, and we failed to secure the mathematical promotion that a win would have given us. For me it was a massive anticlimax.

[Edit: I should add that my dad b0llocked me that day (it was his first game of the season, the glory hunter) and he took exception to me singing 'B@stard Rovers' during No Nay Never. Perhaps that tainted my experience]

Nostalgia has a lot to do with it, but as alluded to above and for everything we're currently achieving, the 91-92 season provided me with most of my fondest memories as a Claret. You have a point about the game to be fair, but the day itself was special and is imprinted in my memory.

My lads first away match.
He can just about be seen sat on the wall in his light brown coat just before Francis cuts in & passes to Deary.

He never lets me forget that I wouldn't allow him to take it off.

I was under instruction by the missus...that's my excuse anyway.

My abiding memory from this game is a horde of Vikings invading the home end partying like it was 992.
Not so much raping and pillaging though i recall.

It was a brilliant away day for sure.

The lad who brought his lilo and was surfing on it on the centre spot was in my year at school.

3 of the lads we went with decided to paint their faces claret and blue and did not realise it was permanent paint (think they used car paint as one of the mates owned a garage). They spent the rest of the week trying to scrub it off !

The day was an anti-climax when they equalised as we had all gone to see them promoted - but we need to remember that at this point in our history Burnley fans were well accustomed to being let down so we all half expected it !!

I could not go to the York game as I was away with work - all my mates went so it was even more gutting !

I was also there that day and witnessed a Burnley supporter bouncing an inflatable sheep off his groin whilst shouting ' Yorkshire Clarets, Yorkshire Clarets', bizarre to say the least.

I remember a Friday night game up there when we were in D4. At least I think it was a Friday night. I can't remember if the game had any significance apart from being a league game.

I remember speaking to a policeman outside, the conversation went something like:

me "Bit of a fail not making it all ticket"
Policeman: "we aren't expecting more than 3000 to travel up from Burnley"
me:"hahahahahaha"

Superb day and set York up nicely

Quite so, if we'd won at Carlisle, York away would have been completely different.

BoT calls it right, they were good days, but so were the last 8 or 9 seasons, (including this one).
Great times to be a Claret.

We stopped on the M/way services on the way down after the match and the ref and one of the linesmen were eating at the next table, which was quite weird. Fantastic day out and us not quite getting over the line with them equalising actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as without it there wouldn't have been "one night in York"!!

Have to agree that it was a bit anticlimactic. Went up expecting to be promoted and although we were almost certain to be promoted it felt disappointing after to match not to have done it on the day. More disappointing for me in that I knew I couldn’t make the midweek match at York.

Certainly a memorable day, and yes a great day up until Carlisle scored!

York had to be the best away day, it could be a dream but I’m sure I saw a Claret centurion and 100 soildiers marching to the ground.
Mind you there were a couple good away days against Sheffield Utd, I think one was a cup game and Adrian Heaths first start which we drew, there was also a certain away game with them at Wembley which I will never forget either.

Whenever I hear/read `Carlisle vs Burnley` from that season, my first thought is that chap on the lilo in the centre circle. Was it just before kick-off? It was absolutely hilarious!!!!!!! Those really were the days! Rochdale away also was a fantastic atmosphere (Measham the scorer?). York...oh York! That really was a Viking invasion!! I can remember doing the conga over the blubberhouses going home.

A more youthful me is in the video about 15 minutes in, with my brother and loads of Colne Clarets. The anti climax of Carlisle scoring only set up that brilliant night in York. After that one we queued for ages in a pub on the A64 to get a celebratory pint. Loads of Clarets in there with only the landlord and his mrs serving. For some reason the coppers had closed all the pubs in York!

Although we weren’t mathematically promoted after that game, we sort of were anyway, as I’m sure we had to lose a 13 goals or more advantage when the chasers had 1 game left?

It would have taken a big win by some other team, and two very heavy losses by us not to be promoted.

I also recall us losing out more than some of the promotion pack because of Aldershot going under. We lost 6 points.

Marney the closest and then Joseph Barton, of course. I think Deary was the first all-round, box-to-box midfield dynamo I ever saw play for Burnley. He really gelled that 91/92 team together. A wonderful player! It was a bit of a coup when we bought him from Blackpool, I think. I remember thinking `he`s a real player` when watching the Tangerines, akin to Eyres.

Some of our fans used to moan about Deary, questioning his value to the side. We played Carlisle away, in the League Cup I think, without Deary. Got smashed 4-1.

and there were more police than Burnley fans there for that game. Don't think it was the League Cup, possibly the prelim round of the Sherpa Van (or whatever it was called then)

It was a League Cup first round 1st leg tie.

TBH I never heard anyone moaning about Deary. I felt he was universally popular and popular for a very good reason. He was an outstanding player in terms of what we'd become used to over many previous seasons. A massive cog in kick starting that brilliant promotion team and thus in the upward trend that began in '91/'92 and has taken us to where we are today. I also felt he was allowed to leave too soon.

My dad came in well after 1 pm and said he fancied going and wondered if I wanted to. Of course I bloody did and we were on the road from Brierfield just after. Luckily at the time he’d just acquired this ridiculous Toyota Supra and he floored it up the M6 in about an hour.

I remember a bit of a queue on the slip road but with our late set off we probably missed most of it. Think he pretty much abandoned the car by the road side mind.

Saw Deary down here for the Vintage Clarets against Alsager. Class still. But never stopped banging on all the game in that Scouse accent. Top player.

Just before the 15 minute mark, some pillock of an interviewer asks a woman with a Jimmy Mullen mask on who she's supposed to be!

I only wish she'd said "Lord Lucan, you ******* prick!"
