English breakfast Colne
Random but as per thread title. Anyone know anywhere in Colne that does a good English Brekky... i.e. something with proper sausages and black pud on par with Bistro 197 or JJ's in Burnley?

I wouldn't touch a crap chain pub with a bargepole if he's after something good quality, which he specifically stated.Dazzler wrote:Morris Dancers

There's a nice little family run place in the arcade just before the market if you are heading into Colne up Albert Road. It's on the right hand side. Homecooked grub including brekkies

A cousin lives close to Morris Dancers & I've had a few cracking breakfasts there after staying the night.
I can't knock it.
Actually,there is a JJ's in Colne.
Albert Road I think.

Re: English breakfast Colne
Grannys cafe upstairs in Colne Market will do you a good English breakfast.
Re: English breakfast Colne
Tubbs might be your best bet.
I ate at the cafe in the arcade mentioned earlier, and the sausages were a proper let down. I expected them to be much better than they were. Rest was alright mind.
Sainsburys breakfasts aren't bad if you don't find anywhere else

Roaming Roosters is good if you can stretch to Fence.
You can walk past the live pigs and cows on your way to the restaurant bit, to build up more of an appetite.

I would definitely follow Geoff's advice in post 4 and go to the Arcade cafe. As he says it's on the right hand side of the Arcade just to the left of Oddies in the main street near the Market Hall.
Granny's cafe upstairs in the market is a decent second place. Wetherspoons ...yes it's OK there too.

Given all the options & an objectionable comment I still recommend Morris Dancers.Stalbansclaret wrote:I would definitely follow Geoff's advice in post 4 Granny's cafe upstairs in the market is a decent second place. Wetherspoons ...yes it's OK there too.

I'd second that. They might not be the biggest breakfast but I've never had a bad one there. Usually fairly quiet in a morning as well.Dazzler wrote:Given all the options & an objectionable comment I still recommend Morris Dancers.

I know someone will say don’t Bother. But me and the Mrs have been going langroyd last few weeks for around £6 with unlimited tea/coffee you get a nice cooked breakfast. They used to have it as help yourself then it was crap bacon etc been lying there all morning! But now it’s made to order it’s really good.Better then going barlick cost me nearly a tenner recently and there was hardly out on the plate seriously.

If you can get to Foulridge they do a great breakfast at Cafe Cargo down by the Canal Wharf. Lovely setting and nice full English. Stuff your face then walk it off along the canal

That's interesting, I've not had a breakfast there so any comment on them. But I definitely wouldn't recommend their evening carvery, if you can call one meat choice and plenty of dried veg a carvery. The evening meal side went massively down hill.bfc1984 wrote:I know someone will say don’t Bother. But me and the Mrs have been going langroyd last few weeks for around £6 with unlimited tea/coffee you get a nice cooked breakfast. They used to have it as help yourself then it was crap bacon etc been lying there all morning! Re: English breakfast Colne
I hear you re the Morris Dancers but it’s a bit out of the town centre and isn’t it now part of a branded chain ? Better to support an independent small business keeping the town centre going imho
Re: English breakfast Colne
No the carvey wasn’t the best last time I tried it.But I may give it a whirl soon perhaps that as improved I don’t know.Certainly nothing wrong with there breakfasts at the minute.WadingInDeeper wrote:That's interesting, I've not had a breakfast there so any comment on them. Anyone know of a good café doing quality English breakfasts in the Rawtenstall area? Quite a few times, after an early Manc meeting, I've thought of calling off for an English.

AT the weekend Alma Inn do a good breakfast for £10. Not sure if they serve during the week.
Last time I went you could choose from a selection of cooked breakfast, cereals/fruit/pastry on a table and drinks.

Tell you what, when we played St Johnston pre season, we stayed in Perth and the breakfast there was awesome as you'd expect. Breakfast buffet with 3 kinds of sausage, and eggs and tatties cooked to order
Im surprised they got me in the car

AnyOne use to frequent PJ’s diner in Colne for breakfast
I went occasionally with my father in law, very greasy spoon
Sainsbury’s also has a cafe in Colne which I imagine does breakfast

I've never once been tempted to go in the Morris Dancers, despite it being walkable from my house. Sizzling pubs are the worst of the lot aren't they? Reviews are always terrible.

12 Bar Cafe, next to the guitar shop down bottom end of hill. Don't even bother with anywhere else.

More baffled than before i asked now
Cars going in garage saturday morning so needs to be walking distance from north valley. Sounds like bannys fish and chips or sainsburys...
To be fair sainsburys do the best cakes in colne.
To say colnes on the up sounds like they struggle for brekkys.

I think its spoons or the cafe near the market thats closest to the north valley....I would favour the cafe myself but have heard that the spoons brekky is decent and great value.

Re: English breakfast Colne
Spoons is good value but it's often bad bacon, bad sausage, rubbery egg, not enough beans, and sesame toast. It's weirdly tasty despite all of that though.
Someone mentioned PJ's further up. That was spot on 15 (?) years ago. Proper what you'd expect, with the option of black pudding, shrooms, etc. Pat and John must have been gone at least 10 years by now though, over southport way I thought?
Anyone mentioned Istanbul/La Villa? Used to be goodish back in the day but can't vouch for it now.

Sainsburys > spoons. If that's your only reason for being where you be, Sainsbury's be it.

That's true, it depends which Spoons you go to. Some are poorly cooked.duncandisorderly wrote:Spoons is good value but it's often bad bacon, bad sausage, rubbery egg, not enough beans, and sesame toast. It's weirdly tasty despite all of that though.
However, they've always been excellent for when I've had one in the Wallace Hartley.

Either Tubbs or Green Chimney if you want a decent breaky mate. Pay for what you get everywhere else ...
P.s. If you fancy a beer in the evening, Duke of Lancaster (Formally called 'Shepherds), is the place to be.
