Looking promising for Saturday
The club say that the contingency plan has been in operation since Monday clearing all the snow etc.
Sounds promising.

Are they going to clear the snow from the roads leading into Burnley?

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
Does say in the statement that it includes areas around the ground.
I’ve no doubt we’d be able to get there. 4x4 makes short work of the white stuff.

All the main roads around town are pretty clear, and with the snow due to stop I doubt it will be that difficult for most to get there if they set off in plenty of time.Jakubs Tash wrote:Are they going to clear the snow from the roads leading into Burnley?

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
The snow stopping is only the first part of it potentially shifting. The fact that the temperatures aren't forecast to go above freezing and there's no sign of rain (which goes hand in hand with milder temps), suggests the chances of it shifting by Saturday are slim...Goobs wrote:All the main roads around town are pretty clear, and with the snow due to stop I doubt it will be that difficult for most to get there if they set off in plenty of time.
The road between Burnley and Rawtenstall right now is treacherous and there is extremely deep snow drifts in many places.

Snows pretty fine to walk in. The problems start when it stops falling. It freezes and stops compacting under foot.

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
I don't think there'll be many problems with the main roads, snow forecast to ease off
and don't forget they'll be continually gritted (hopefully
) to clear the existing stuff.
As said above, it's the minor side roads that'll be the main problem.
BFC have just said they'll "do all they can to ensure the game goes ahead"
with plans in place to clear snow from TM, both "in and around the stadium."
(R/lancs).

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
Anyone from further afield I would suggest not bothering. Far more important things than risking it IMO.
I don't mind the cold or the snow, but even I might not bother and I only live round the corner. To be honest will probably be lucky if I get back north at all this week. Even the tubes were closed this morning at the main stations.

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
Can certainly understand and expect a lot of people not to bother going on at the weekend. Last week was uncomfortable enough shielding my eyes for 90 mins. Freezing from the off is a different challenge but not insurmountable and also not necessary.PaintYorkClaretnBlue wrote:The club say that the contingency plan has been in operation since Monday clearing all the snow etc.

Burnley Rd between Burnley & Bacup, snow drifting across the road due to the high winds.Jakubs Tash wrote:The snow stopping is only the first part of it potentially shifting. Had to turn round (just managed it) and go down Burnley Rd east.
Driven down from Glasgow this morning and that was by far the most dangerous road I've been on.
Re: Looking promising for Saturday
Reckon there'll be lots of season ticket holders that don't bother on Saturday, could potentially be our lowest league crowd for a while.

We are getting battered with snow in Berkshire and more to come.Unfortunately we look like missing the game live. Its a shame because Everton was our nearest team growing up in West Lancs and we always look for their score.

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
The club will not want to loose tv money so i imagine it will be all hands on deck in and around Turf Moor for the hours left before the game, a lot of fans may well stay at home and watch on sky , which you cant blame them really, hopefully the stands will be well gritted and ice free and the game goes ahead, come away with 3 points for the clarets, then off back to Harwood for a few beers with the lads. utc

And if it's postponed the likely outcome would be a midweek televised game anyway.i would assumeQuickenthetempo wrote:The club have already been paid our tv money

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
We'll wait to make a decision until Saturday morning. We're just outside Skipton, some areas of the road are not very good. I don't like missing a game and I'm not good at watching us on tv but safety comes first.
Re: Looking promising for Saturday
Sadly it's looking increasingly likely I'll have to miss this one. I'm in Halifax and it's uphill from my house to the main road, car hasn't moved all week.

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
Usually I would and do several times if we fancy a few beers however there's train strikes. Also with early kick off and no car , dropping my kids back at their mum's so early isn't going to be possible.Belial wrote:Get t'train lad

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
So long as Everton, the ref, the officials, the ground staff, security, turnstile staff, and everyone else needed to get the game on can get to the Turf for Sat morning it should go ahead
Maybe Everton will helicopter in !
Fingers crossed

Correct. I think that a club has to be in something like 10 televised games before they get any extra money.Quickenthetempo wrote:The club have already been paid our tv money

North America is used to snow, getting around over there after a snow storm is a piece of cake compared to here where everyone loses their minds and councils aren't equipped to sort the roads.ayrshireclaret83 wrote:Have to agree how many NFL games go ahead when the weather is crazy

Down here in windy Lincolnshire I have to admit at the moment I can't get off the drive let alone to the main roads! With less than 24 hours before we should be on route it is looking iffy......to say the least.

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
So Red Lees Road was closed this morning, but should have been dug out by now. But all the roads on the lower levels are clear. My wife has driven from Cliviger to Accrington today. The roads around the Turf are clear. If the clear the car parks arounf the ground then it'll be no problem. I guess they'll just grit them. The wind has meant that most of the open surfaces are clear and the snow has drifted up, makes it easier to clear. Unless there is severe weather on the day the game will go ahead.
Re: Looking promising for Saturday
Walked past the Turf to town yesterday. The roads will be fine. The footpaths however were slippy as hell and will only get worse when the snow freezes solid. It will also only take a couple of empty heads thinking its funny to throw what will be ice balls into large crowds, causing injuries.

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
Is it really essential that this game goes ahead tomorrow? Doesn't appear to matter that we are quite rightly being warned not to venture out unless it's absolutely vital, snow drifts, black ice, freezing daytime temperatures all more than suggest an early postponement is the right call.

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
We have lots of travelling fans, I was one myself until recently.
Where does the club draw the line at it being fit and safe to travel?
They can only really cater for the local area as fit to travel from London is not neccesarily the case from East Anglia.
The acid test for me is the TV coverage, if they can make it to work in those trucks it has to be on.

BBC five live saying that the Premier League are "keeping a close eye " on
Swanseas home game against West Ham.
It's on as things stand, but they're concerned with travelling conditions, mainly.
I've no doubt ours will be on now.

Wales and the west Country have more to come. A friend posted on fb this morning from Gloucestershire and his car is buried up to the windows.

Re: Looking promising for Saturday
I live about 8 miles outside Burnley and it looks and feels somewhat bleak to me. Forecast of more snow tonight, freezing temperatures again overnight and tomorrow. Fanzone shut, possibly for fear of people slipping and injuring themselves? As I said, is it really vital to complete this fixture tomorrow?dsr wrote:But we're not being warned not to venture out. Re: Looking promising for Saturday
Surely the obvious thing to do here is monitor the weather over night and make a call as early as possible tomorrow. It's not like the team and the fans are going to be traveling from the south...
Re: Looking promising for Saturday
It's not vital to complete it at all. The world would keep turning if Everton and Burnley played only 37 matches. But you could argue that about any game- there will always be a reason, however trivial, that may make it safer to call a game off - it's a matter of assessing how risky it is to play. In this case, the general assessment is "not too risky" so it goes ahead. You then have to make your own assessment as to whether it's safe for you personally to get there.Silkyskills1 wrote:I live about 8 miles outside Burnley and it looks and feels somewhat bleak to me. Re: Looking promising for Saturday
As far as I am aware the club have plans for a team to be working from the early hours of the morning to ensure the Turf and surrounding areas are fit for kick off time. I can still remember the Arsenal game some years ago now where the pavements and surrounding areas were lethal but we still had a healthy gate on.
