Dyche confirmed Arfield will get at least 10 mins against Bournemouth so he can get a send off from fans but hinted at a Mexican standoff with Mee around him signing a new contract so we'll have to wait and see how that pans out

Fair enough. He's done very well for us and deserves it, but I'd only do that when we've secured 7th place.Devils_Advocate wrote:Dyche confirmed Arfield will get at least 10 mins against Bournemouth

Not sure if this is the thread for a serious post but I've been thinking about the possibility of Mee and Arfield leaving.
If they were to go, would we be losing more than just two players? Both can be replaced, Arfield already has, but as mainstays and very much the epitome of the Dyche era, will their loss have a bigger impact?

No. They were a big part of stage 1 of the master plan, but as we move to stage 2 we now require different.TheFamilyCat wrote:Not sure if this is the thread for a serious post but I've been thinking about the possibility of Mee and Arfield leaving.

Established Premier League teams don't pick players because they give it their all.

Re: Mee and Arfield
We are reliably informed that he has a shin problem, soreness possibly the same as the end of last season. Perhaps being virtually ever-present is tiring him at the end of these tough Pl seasons, it's not impossible. All of our regulars must be getting a bit knackered by now.ClaretTony wrote:Then the medics have made a right mess by the look of him then if there's nothing wrong with him.

Re: Mee and Arfield
I wonder whether it could be shin splints with Ben because he always puts a shift in and I assume that he is the same in training. Once this starts to affect you it is quite painful and you can take some time to recover.

Re: Mee and Arfield
As a fan you build up a bit of a picture of players and whether they would leave if for a greater package. Ben strikes me as being not one of those. Since Eddie Howe was at BFC he has been a virtual ever present (subject to injury). He is stand in captain and looks a real team player. He has gained quite rightly national status and recognition with BFC, as a top nonsense defender. Ben is a "warrior" and will be aware of his limitations (pace/drops the occasional clanger) and certainly would struggle to hold a regular place in a top third side-may be in some clubs below us such as Everton, Leicester, Newcastle. Then you wonder about Bournemouth to rejoin Eddy however Ben has only ever lived in the north west. I fear his career would be at risk if he moved and he may sense this too
I am confident this is a similar injury to last year. Lets hope so

Let's start a crowd funding project so we can afford the £60,000 a week salary to help Mee sign.

Re: Mee and Arfield
A friend of mine who is in the know confirmed that Ben Mee is genuinely injured and he thinks it is highly unlikely he will leave this summer. When I asked him about Arfield being injured and would he play for his again his response was no comment.

Re: Mee and Arfield
Arfield will only make the bench anyway, at best. Some people blow far too much smoke up his backside without realising that if we're to improve and get better, players like Arfield need to be no longer making the side.

And some people fail to realise that we’re now in a league (and potentially Europe) where the strength of the squad matters almost as much as the strength of the best eleven.DustyBawls wrote:Arfield will only make the bench anyway, at best. Crikey, you're a bigger fan of his than I realise.martin_p wrote:And some people fail to realise that we’re now in a league (and potentially Europe) where the strength of the squad matters almost as much as the strength of the best eleven.
You're one of those who simply don't want the team to improve enough that he'll be classed as no longer good enough.
How on Earth do you expect us to keep growing when you can't get your head out of the sand and realise to improve it means players who were once good enough, no longer is? What does the club have to do!?

I would be gutted when Scotty leaves and would be surprised and very upset if Ben leaves, both solid Burnley soldiers.

I’d almost forgotten Scotty , great servant though.Ben Mee I’d be sad to see go he’s very much s Burnley warrior but that said he’d be easily replaced as these things go .
Ultimately if we’re to move on sentiment has to be put aside. To hear some in here you’d think Scotty,BM,and Marney were “ Best, Law and Charlton”

It looked like Mee might be leaving back in 2015 when Dyche kept playing him out of position at left back instead of Ward. Luckily Dyche listened to what a lot of fans were telling him and switched the whole defence around, went 23 games undefeated and the rest is history.

Arfield is a better player than he has been given credit for. I don’t think we will miss him now, but he has made a massive contribution to the success of the club over the past five seasons on and off the field.
