Remember when we used to sing this one..[ 'Burnley are back..'] usually when we had a promotion?...we've had a few of them.
Haven't heard it for a while...did we sing it at Charlton?
Be good to get it out again for the last two matches, in view of our current elevated position.
I think it was sung at Deepdale in May 1973 during the 1-1 draw [the memory is a little faded on that one..

]...the song is from 1973.

Apologies to anyone with serious dislike of the glitter man.

The pop world would be completely different if you took the works of Gary Glitter out of it. Influenced a lot of punk/new wave/ New Romantics.

Is this a serious post?

Also "Glitter, 64, was given refuge by an old friend the tiny village of Hill Head in Hampshire"
Hill Head is about a mile from where I currently live.

True story about GG.
My first day at secondary school - we were placed at our desks in surname alphabetical order....meaning I was right at the front of the classroom. The lad who I was sat next to showed me a picture of him swimming with GG in his swimming pool.
This was before all the scandal came out...makes me shudder now.

Not heard that one before. I thought their main influences came from the likes of the Velvet Underground, MC5, Stooges, New York Dolls.

12..it's a serious but lightweight post, about re-invigorating an old pop song, bearing in mind that we are going to finish 7th in the Premier League..

The Glitter band had a unique and fantastic sound and the riff on rock 'n' roll part one is a hoot in every way.

If you don't rate Rock and Roll Christmas as the greatest Christmas song then you probably have a more chequered past than he does.

I remember 'Burnley aggro' sung to the same tune every time a fight broke out which was not an infrequent occurrence back in the 70's.

1st time poster, long time Claret.
Love the ‘BURNLEY ARE BACK’ suggestion. Wish I’d have remembered at Wembley!
How’s about ‘You make my life so sweet ‘BURNLEY’ the way you do the things you do’ to the ub40 tune of ‘The way you...?’ Just an idea

That's blown my mind, I never knew that song was 'hello, hello'..always thought we were singing 'Burnley are back, Burnley are back ohwoah ohwoah'... I did a similar thing with 'Owen Coyle der Der Der der', I was away abroad for that chant, when I came back I thought the Der Der bit was 'doing the Lambeth walk' and my mate said "the feck you doing with all those ders?"

Most people born after the year 2000 will have never heard a Gary Glitter song.

For all those young uns the lyrics to the famous Agro ditty sang on the terraces across the land in 1970s and 1980s were :
A....G
A...G.....R
A....G.....R......O
AGRO
Often followed up by the classic “You’re gonna get your f-ucking head kicked in”....(and repeat)
Not too much thought went into the lyrics of football songs back in the day - they were rather direct and got straight to the point probably best illustrated by one particular one which was easy for everyone to remember.
“Attack....Attack....Attack....Attack....Attack”

Some horrible chants looking back to those days.
You're going home in a ******* ambulance
You'll never reach the station
We don't carry bottles we don't carry lead we only carry axes to bury in your head
Let's hope those days are consigned to the history books.

One of my favourite 70s chants was
He's here, he's there
He's every fookin where!
Ralphie Coates.....Ralphie Coates
which became (after the club requested the fans to cut out swearing)
He's here, he's there
We're not allowed to swear!
Ralphie Coates.....Ralphie Coates
One of my all time favourite Burnley players. Gone, but never forgotten.

It was 1973 but I always seem to remember it getting its first airing at Sheffield United on the opening day of the next season
