Ward and Lennon
Just not doing it for me, Lennon I keep saying give him time but the end product isn’t there enough.
Wards just not been up to his usual standard since returning, hence why we are getting bombarded down the left today.

Sorry disagree he just not right, Which ever side his decision making has to be better and his body language just makes me feel he’s not quite at it.

We have been poor all over the pitch. Iwobi has run the show and we have conceded both goals from our left. We have offered nowt up front.

He's probably not used to playing as a secondary fullback, it's possible he just isn't enjoying his football now. I'm not sure i'd enjoy playing in this system as an attacking wide player.Newcastleclaret93 wrote:Said it last week.

Re: Ward and Lennon
Got our flip flops on. Like Chelsea, Stoke and Brighton more than a few have got their flip flops on.
2 or 3 just aren't good enough, but you've got to at least try and make it a contest.
0 shots on goal, we've not even made it a cup style contest playing the percentages.

Hell claretdiver I’m proud as punch and the players have been unbelievable. But I am allowed to say Lennon has been poor! Home and away for me, he just hasn’t got it or isn’t bothered.

We've done well this season but players are still expected to perform. It's like a sales team hitting its target, earning a huge bonus and then not bothering to sell anything else.

It's a good job we're so close to the end of the season. A rest and a good pre-season will do them both the world of good.

Lennon has been turd for 4 or 5 games now. I definitely wouldn’t rule him out though as I’d expect him to come out a different player after a pre season and competition for places.

Our lads have done brilliant to get us to 7th..and into Europe...but their knackered, mentally and physically..
With the injuries we've had and the small squad etc how anyone can be moaning about individual players is beyond me

I think people are moaning about today’s match , we lost 5-0 , yes brilliant season but we lost 5-0 , I expect Dyche will be fuming , or will he say to players well done ?Cornwallclaret wrote:Our lads have done brilliant to get us to 7th..and into Europe...but their knackered, mentally and physically..

Don't make up excuses for them if they were outplayed, Arsenal have handed out quite a few stuffings at the Emirates this season.

Re: Ward and Lennon
Personally I kind of look at results like today as a positive. Yes we got battered but SD will have been looking at some of the players and thinking we need to upgrade on him, him and him. Where as 4 games ago all was rosy and you wouldnt have been able to say any of them needed replacing

Is Lennon good enough? Name me a time when he has played his heart out
Re: Ward and Lennon
Then why did Dyche play them? I'd suspect they were all fully fit to play they just didn't perform, it's a simple as that. I don't see the point in making a heap of excuses, nobody is saying anything bad about the season and what they've achieved, this is a Burnley fans forum, are we not allowed to be disappointed after a lacklustre 5-0 defeat?Cornwallclaret wrote:Our lads have done brilliant to get us to 7th..and into Europe...but their knackered, mentally and physically..

Re: Ward and Lennon
SD knows best but I still hate playing the FBs so narrow and allowing the oppos widemen to receive the ball in so much space.
He’d say we defend the cross. I prefer the old fashioned way and stop the cross coming in.
They’ve all been off their best for a month but with a small squad and the shifts they put in prior to that I’ll forgive them.
Europe here we come.

We have a squad but SD doesn't really use it fully, so presumably they are doing it well in training.

Wards been good for the majority of the season.
Charlie was doing good when he replaced him, though.
Lennon's neither use nor ornament lately.

Lennon off the boil he had played some cracking games needs resting. Ward looks to be carrying a knock.

Re: Ward and Lennon
Think maybe we should have kept Arfield. Lennon has looked really poor for a few games now. He earns a fortune but doesn't look intetested.

What we need besides a very strong tough midfielder, and a creative midfielder and a centre half and a quick centre forward is another but better Arfield. Wouldn't that be great.

Re: Ward and Lennon
Lennon is having to do more defending than getting forward, the comments are a bit unfair, I would think that Sean has asked him to do this.
But I might be wrong
We was poor today, the gap between 6 & 7 is enormous it showed big time

Re: Ward and Lennon
I may be being a bit sensitive, but I'm slightly uncomfortable about the comments about Lennon "not being arsed". I don't think that is fair at all, and I think its a slightly outrageous claim to make about any of our players. Dyche simply doesn't stand for it and Lennon wouldn't be treated as an exception. I've seen Lennon do a huge amount of defensive work for us in every game I've seen him play for us. I do think that, like Brady last season, he's still getting caught at times with what is asked of him - the wide players are incredibly important to us and they have a more tactically involved job than just about any other player in our system. I can't think of a single one who has come in mid-season and genuinely "got" that job immediately since Dyche has arrived.
In attack, we've gone of the boil a bit generally in the last couple of weeks, but certainly I think the switch to two up top has affected Lennon. Save at WBA, where we had an unusual amount of possession, its forced Lennon (and the opposite winger) to play narrower than I suspect they'd like, to help us match up in midfield. Lennon's game is based around making really direct runs from the outside right channel into the inside right channel to run onto balls slid between the lines and inside the full back. At times we've forced him to reverse that - run from inside to out, and to take the ball with his back to goal. Its little wonder we've not seen the best of him.
Finally, even when he has been able to make the runs he thrives upon, we've also lacked a really penetrating passer to exploit them. This is no criticism of Westwood, who is extremely tidy, but he's no substitute for Defour in seeing and executing those forward passes that release an attacker between the lines. Hendrick is probably a more incisive forward passer than Westwood, but he's probably not as neat and tidy and he's rightly been below Westwood in the pecking order. But I'm sure we'll see much more of Lennon in the positions Lennon wants to be in if we can pair him with Defour next season.
So, in summary, don't write him off yet. Wait until he's had a pre-season with us, and we line up in the 4-5-1/4-3-3 system that suits both him and Defour, and see how they combine together. On paper, it looks a treat.
As for Ward, he'll be reet. He won't go on for ever and Taylor (or someone) will gradually replace him over the next 18 months. But there's fuel left in the tank yet

Give him a good pre season and he will be the same as Defour, learns the shape what's expected and he will be spot on.

Re: Ward and Lennon
Say what you may about Boyd and Arfield, but they never left their full-backs exposed.
Given that our boys are a bit tired after seriously over-achieving this season, defending from the front has tailed off a bit and midfield look like statues against a fluent Arsenal in possession.
Not blaming anyone, just observing.
