Funny books

Post by Joe Buck » Mon Jul 02, 2018 8:13 pm

Off to Greece for couple of weeks next week and wondering if anyone can recommend a good light hearted, humorous books. Think we need cheering up after a few weeks of reading the bitterness of the exchanges from some on this forum.

Would certainly recommend the Alan Partridge books, if that’s your thing!

The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window And Disappeared; or The Girl Who Saved The King Of Sweden. Both by the same Norwegian author whose name I can't remember. (Nothing at all to do with the Girl with the Dragon tattoo.)

Round Ireland with a Fridge. It's fairly old but if you haven't read it worth a look. Especially if you have ever been over there.

I definitely recommend Yes Man. Not only is Danny Wallace brilliantly funny, it changed my life as it made me think differently about opportunities. It's far better than the film, before anyone asks.

Depending on how old you are Spike Milligan's series surrounding World War 2 are hilarious, sad and tragic but without being too deep.

Ugh, really?

I found the first paragraph funny about the parking barrier and that was it.

I found it a half arsed, can't be arsed to go more than 30 miles from my home in London, insult to the first one.

Notes from a small island I would thoroughly recommend.

Horses for courses. My daughter passed this on to me a while back. I’ve read the first chapter twice, Beautiful South, and gave up to it. On your recommendation I tried again but skipped chapter 1. I still haven’t found a smile in it.
I told the daughter and she says “I didn’t like it but I thought you might”. Ah well!

Great call. Read that in a former life and loved it.

Although it doesn't read well from a PC point of view, Evelyn Waugh's "Scoop" also about Africa is an excellent comedy.

Just read "The Accidental Soldier" by Owain Mulligan. Described as "A non-fiction Catch 22". A very funny read.

If you've got audible I can highly recommend Only Fools and Horses - first 16 episodes package.

Translates extremely well as a listen, and would probably have worked as a radio show as well.

If you listen at work, bear in mind you will be constantly laughing out loud.
