Nixon has suggested he wasn’t keen on a move north. If true, then it’s out of our hands - move on.

Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
I’m not convinced we were ever likely to get him but i don’t know obviously.
Dawson is clearly the main target still, this may have been a Snodgrass type media move to try and drive the cost of Brady (Dawson) down. I hope so anyway, we need a centre back.

You’d hope that with our in-depth character profiling, the fact that a possible target might not want to move up north would be pretty easy to find out!SGr wrote:Nixon has suggested he wasn’t keen on a move north. If true, then it’s out of our hands - move on.

Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
If the owner of Fulham can afford to buy Wembley Stadium Burnley are not even at the races to buy Mawson to be honest.
With players picking up injuries left, right and centre pre season Sean Dyche will need to get a shift on in this transfer window.

They don't need to be a very good judge of player though. They'll just sign them and if they aren't good enough, sell at a cheaper price. It certainly makes football a lot easier when you can just throw money away like that.KRBFC wrote:Fulham don't mess about, basically signed sealed and delivered in 24 hours...

Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
Problem with these players is many on here go apoplectic when we don’t get a certain player but if we manage to spunk 10 to 15 million on them many on here, likely the same posters, write them off as a waste of money after half an hours footy.
I saw very little, from last season performances, to suggest that Dawson, Mawson, Jay Rod or Clucas would set our world on fire.
I’m not sure we can or should pay the fees or the wages, required for these relegated players.
Worked with Championship relegated players but
the millions required is a big risk.
Maybe the reality is the Dunne McNeil Agyei route is our reality

Can you please tell me Fulham's income for promotion and the transfer fee for Mawson....DustyBawls wrote:They don't need to be a very good judge of player though. In fairness m KRBFC you also need to add on the other fees paid and wages committed to. Also linked with Tierney for another 25 million, their commitments will be greater than their incoming.

You don't even understand that how much they get got for promotion means little, to nothing, when they have a large pit of money anyway. You can't comprehend that, can you? The money they got for promotion is down the side of the sofa stuff.
And I'm adding you to the ignore list, because my 7 year old nephew knows more about football than you.

What a signing he is! Would of been well happy if he signed 4 us, as he is a real handful for defenders.. Mitrovic n Barnes would of terrorised em.. instead we might get crouch..Reecey1987 wrote:And there paying 20+ mil for mitrovic

Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
Fulham spending heavily but why not with the PL money and their very wealthy owner. They've got a good manager, some really good players and they're adding to that, though I'm not sure Mawson is all that to be honest.
Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
Considering they have a wealthy owner who can soak up losses it's not a problem for them - similar to Bournemouth.KRBFC wrote:Can you please tell me Fulham's income for promotion and the transfer fee for Mawson....
Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
So if they're so heavily reliant on the owner, why haven't they spent big previously? Spending money they received for promotion isn't cheating..DustyBawls wrote:You ALWAYS spout crap, kid. And I say kid, because there is absolutely no way on this planet you are over the age of 16.

Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
It’s certainly not cheating. It does allow teams to be less cautious as costly errors are less of an issue to them.
Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
But the difference is that there is a big safety net if it doesn't work out. If we sign a player, say for £25 million & £100k wages but it doesn't work we haven't got much room for manoeuvre. It won't make a blind bit of difference to teams like Fulham, nor will the chairman care as it will be loose change to them.KRBFC wrote:So if they're so heavily reliant on the owner, why haven't they spent big previously? Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
You are kind of correct, if we bought Mawson for £25M and £100k p/w and he was bobbins, it wouldn't matter if we stayed in the league and received more PL monies. Our safety net is PL income, I'm sure we have funds built up to provide us with a safety net if we were relegated.Spijed wrote:But the difference is that there is a big safety net if it doesn't work out. Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
The big problem is that Burnley are almost totally reliant on the PL income to invest in players and wages, whilst other clubs can splash out on a single player spending the whole amount of their PL income and still having plenty left in reserve from cash injections made by their wealthy owners.
Burnley could spend the next 5 seasons in the PL and still be struggling to compete on transfers whilst the PL remains the sole source of our income.

In addition, we have to use any money for our ground improvements/training centre from PL finances.
For other clubs that won't come under FFP so they can spend whatever they like on ground infrastructure without making any dent on player funds, whether that be transfers or wages. All our money has to come from the PL pot.

Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
Something needs to change.
We can't keep saying we can't afford high wages and high transfer fees then exclusively shop in the most expensive market in the world which is the English leagues.
There are top quality players in leagues across Europe that would love to be on the wages that Burnley can offer. But we don't have a suitable scouting network or even the willingness to look to Europe. It's like Brexit has already happened for BFC and we are not allowed over the channel.

5 seasons in the PL? I'd take just the one at the moment but I take your point and it is a very relevant one, especially regarding the 'sole source of our income'.
I posted a few days ago words to the effect that the PL has evolved into a 'monster' which will 'devour' anything that doesn't feed it. One of my more poetic moments,I think, but written in genuine concern. Really cannot see a way out of this one for us currently with the clock ticking down. Seems a long time now since first news came out regarding a double swoop for Dawson and Rodriguez with the addendum that we wanted our business 'done quickly'.

Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
Appears to be fairly pointless on here referring to a rich owner who will cover losses, as some people don't care or understand that fact.
Aren't they also paying £22 million for Mitrovic from Newcastle?
Potentially £60 million ish on just 3 players, plus wages and other fees.

Re: Looks like Fulham are winning the Mawson race
He would never sign for us because of the wage structure, who can blame him, we are not going to get any big name signings because other clubs are offering huge wages, which, as we all know our club wont stretch resources, a thing that we have learned to expect year after year.

Would much prefer Lascelles to Mawson but think he will go to Leicester if McGuire goes to Man U. Would be worth every penny of the rumoured 35 mill.

Is it really much of a race? No big deal to me, relegated centre-back with potential and that's about it.

I don't recall Mawson playing particularly well last season, whereas MaGuire had played very well when relegated. Of course I could be wrong, but if Mawson was a really top defender I think better clubs would be in for him. Incidentally, is there any serious evidence that we are interested?Reecey1987 wrote:Harry maguire was relegated now look at him . Just because you get relegated it doesnt make you a bad player

We are better off without him and especially injured. We wasted money on Naaki Wells buying an injured player and need players who can step straight into the team.Jimmy Dunne deserves his chance. If he were at a Championship club,we would be raving about this fast developing talent.Time to trust in our own
