just looking it up see we have won this trophy 12 times [same as liverpool and Bolton]all in 3rd place. Rovers have won it the most with 18 wins so would be nice to win the final against the top [cough] team in this elite group

Seem to remember this was a trophy the Burnley Reserves won on a regular basis back in the 60's.

The boy Richardson sounds to be a goal machine, the first thing that came to mind when his age was mentioned was a certain 16 year old Tommy Lawton making his debut for us all those years ago. If he turns out to be as prolific a goalscorer as Tommy then he has quite a career ahead of him.

Wouldnt surprise me SD including him as the 19th man in a dead rubber at the end of the season, fingers crossed we are safe ha ha. The kind of thing SD does, as shown with Mcneil. Always mentions his family so have the impression he is about the building up of young players and making sure their family are never left out

I’d not get carried away putting him in the first team squad. He plays most of his football still at under-16 level.

There may be others in front of him but Benson has already had the pleasure, Mcneil is now a first teamer, Koiki is out on loan. Just saying I think SD understands that it can give young players a boost and reinforces all the hard work they put in and may drive them to give even more

Different competition then Roy with all the

big NW clubs involved. We would usually play our reserves but others, usually lower division clubs, would play their first team. The competition has been stopped twice, was once a pre-season competition when we last won it. Good to see it being played for even if most of the games are played at training grounds.

If my dad was still with us he’d be telling us just how good Lawton was.

Unlikely that he’s even registered for the Premier League. What he usually does if he’s bringing one in is it will be someone who has been training with the first team over a period of time.

As a matter of interest on our way to that first Final against Blackburn Rovers in 1889/90 we beat Rossendale 4-3, Haydock 15-0 & Higher Walton 7-0.

Ah right.........So when did they move over to Peel Park?

I remember my dad taking me to Peel Park for a friendly against us to 'open' their new floodlights, probably around 1957. Half the population of Accrington turned out to see Jimmy Mac but Mac was injured and Billy White played in his place. Stanley had a decent side back then in the old Third Division North.
