I think the real question is "does anybody really care?".

Re: Could it be true.
True, but is it a possibility they strayed onto Bono’s patch targeting the catholic’s stirring up trouble, both sides hated each other in every shape & form the 1s involved with the violence.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 3:03 pmApparently where Bono grew up was nowhere near any aggro.

It's possible but he was raised in Dublin so I couldn't tell you the likelihood of the Orange men beating up Catholic kids there.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 3:07 pmTrue, but is it a possibility they strayed onto Bono’s patch targeting the catholic’s stirring up trouble, both sides hated each other in every shape & form the 1s involved with the violence.

Re: Could it be true.
I wasn't questioning that as a playground spat as we all have, it was more to do with armed militia causing violence over sectarian belief's, not kids chasing each other with catapults I'm talking AK47s or whatever rifles they used.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 3:49 pmIs there a kid alive that hasn't been beaten up at some stage?

There's a nice little example of understatement in the article, if you enjoy that kind of thing.

Having worked in an Irish pub for well over 3 years it's not uncommon for North Americans to make these kind of faux pas.

This is far later than the alleged bono assault, a love ulster parade marked with trouble.

Re: Could it be true.
It's laughable nonsense
I live not far away from where he grew up (Clontarf) it
is and always has been a very well-to-do area.
More chance of finding Rovers fans in Padiham than Orange order protestants in Dublin.
Either he's talking shite or Bon Jovi is getting confused between Belfast and Dublin.
Or maybe he meant Rory Gallagher but thought it was Bono.
Either ways, it's total shite

Re: Could it be true.
He was probably tangoed and didn't realise it.
Re: Could it be true.
There is an active Dublin and Wicklow Orange Lodge .. I do agree that there is almost no chance that they menaced young Mr Hewson in Clontarfcriminalclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 8:56 pmIt's laughable nonsense![]()

Re: Could it be true.
Bono is the product of old style Sectarian histories... where there was good guys and bad guys, like all of us of that generation. Post modernised histories concentrate less on “the truth” and explains there are always more than one truth and usually several often contradictory truths to any political or sectarian Argument. Only dates are set in stone.
It will make Ireland a much more understanding place, given time.

Re: Could it be true.
Indeed it does and advanced study has always considered competing themes ... differing perspectives ... change and continuity but we are all about decolonising the curriculum just nowelwaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Oct 08, 2020 10:18 pmBono is the product of old style Sectarian histories... where there was good guys and bad guys, like all of us of that generation. Re: Could it be true.
Have to say I’ve found my course at Preston very much based on Empire, just looking at it from every angle.
Re: Could it be true.
Yes and there is nothing wrong with that to be fair ... people assume we are trying to deny or downplay our past but I don’t see it that way ... more a case of giving a voice to those we haven’t always listened to ...
As well as ,much more so than instead of, our traditional view ...
Mind you I specialise in 20th century history particularly The Cold War in Europe ... Empires of the mind etc
Are you studying a degree course ?

Re: Could it be true.
I had to read page after page on the Hungarian communist party during my study ... boring beyond belief and largely unpronounceable to non-Hungarians
... post-war Germany is my main interest these days

Re: Could it be true.
I’m very lucky I’m currently doing Riots and Rebellions, with Peterloo expert Robert Poole.
Re: Could it be true.
Sounds good , always a good thing when you’ve got access to the author ... when I did my A levels back in the early 1980s my History teacher had written the text book .. I remain suitably impressed . One of my second year degree modules covered the long- nineteenth century I enjoyed that period I must admit ... I taught an Industrial Revolution online session recently on Teams that began with a brief overview of Peterloo ... chartism ... cotton riots etc only touched on that period quite briefly though as background to what came next
Enjoy
Enjoy
