Undercover Police Channel 4
Hunting Paedophiles. Good view of Burnley from top of Manchester Road as they drive into town to arrest the pond life.

Thank god it turned out he was from Luton.
Absolutely sickening programme to watch. Hats off to those officers that have to deal with it.

I must admit when I heard Luton I was relieved. As a town we get enough bad press. The last bit where that officer had the watch those films was sickening.Longsidebovril wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 10:17 pmThank god it turned out he was from Luton.

I feel a bit sick - watched it and it was showing Burnley as the 'from' destination.
Of course, it could have easily been any location but still.

Are there no paedophiles in Burnley???

Re: Undercover Police Channel 4
I turned over to it just at the point of the detective(?) categorising the content she was viewing. I’m far from a prude, but at the point of her describing the content, I had to switch off.Longsidebovril wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 10:17 pmThank god it turned out he was from Luton.

It’s a good job that some people have the ability and strength to be able to do this sort of work. I couldn’t do it and I know 100% that I wouldn’t have the control to stop myself from kicking the **** out of the culprits.
It’s impossible to comprehend that someone could even contemplate doing the things being described.

We have been watching that 24 Hours in Police Custody from the beginning and the episode where the Child Protection Unit are doing the same is truly sickening. Also Luton.

The guy seemed to be wondering why he had no friends if he stopped preying on young kids he might just attract some, these kind of people just need capital punishment, the monster had a long track record & no kind of rehabilitation had worked on him.

Found it really weird the way the police message them pretending to be nonces themselves, some of the language they use is sick, just found it really shocking to see them write it.
I get the bigger picture but still find it weird

I watched it last night after the match and found it equally difficult viewing as our “football” for this reason. All those men sat around deciding what to write back was sick.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 7:55 amFound it really weird the way the police message them pretending to be nonces themselves, some of the language they use is sick, just found it really shocking to see them write it.

No idea how they do it as their job, or look at the images, without becoming extremely messed up themselves.
Also not sure how I feel about the entrapment nature of their work. I understand it’s the only way catch these people, but also got the impression they were encouraging them to commit offences they mightn’t otherwise have sought to commit. Our streets are safer as a result though.

Pretty much what I said to the Mrs, it just doesn't sit right with me. They have major issues and most of it seems to stem from their childhoods, I just think encouraging that sort of behaviour is the last thing they should be doing.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 8:38 amI watched it last night after the match and found it equally difficult viewing as our “football” for this reason. But again, I sort of see both sides of the coin

They were continually courting the guy from Luton/Burnley to meet 'Simon', I didn't get the impression it was the other way around. I'd have liked to have known if he bought the train tickets and can't really understand why they didn't arrest him at the destination.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 9:48 amPretty much what I said to the Mrs, it just doesn't sit right with me. I'd never seen the "dark web" or heard of some of those websites before though. Really shocking that those things exist.

Re: Undercover Police Channel 4
If you remember what they said about exposing somebody publicly & the said person going to ground & becoming difficult to track down, the picture of his flat & the dog was enough & his track record & the intent, I guess there could have waited but if he became spooked it’s a possibility he could have gone to ground undetected.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 12:18 pmThey were continually courting the guy from Luton/Burnley to meet 'Simon', I didn't get the impression it was the other way around. Re: Undercover Police Channel 4
Fair point. Surely they could’ve observed him for a bit though, given the gravity of the offence? I suppose my point is they don’t know he would’ve followed through with his online chat, whereas if they’d waited they would.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 7:00 pmIf you remember what they said about exposing somebody publicly & the said person going to ground & becoming difficult to track down, the picture of his flat & the dog was enough & his track record & the intent, I guess there could have waited but if he became spooked it’s a possibility he could have gone to ground undetected.
Was also shocked at how their identities were totally exposed by the programme after stressing the exposure risk. Terrifying to think these folk may be living on our street though.
Not sure if it’s going to come in future episodes, but surely the best use of police resources is hacking the dark web somehow & locating all these individuals, then shutting it down like they did with encrochat?

Re: Undercover Police Channel 4
Let me put it this way simply, if you had a young daughter or son living in the Burnley area, surely it’s more preferable that he was behind bars ASAP rather than run the risk of letting him roam the streets. You simply cannot afford to hang about with these people.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 7:55 pmFair point. Surely they could’ve observed him for a bit though, given the gravity of the offence? Re: Undercover Police Channel 4
Maybe not, but would he have got a longer jail term had it been proven he was actually going to do it (vs talk about doing it?). I don’t know? But if he were, the streets might’ve been safer for longer.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 8:02 pmLet me put it this way simply, if you had a young daughter or son living in the Burnley area, surely it’s more preferable that he was behind bars ASAP rather than run the risk of letting him roam the streets. Re: Undercover Police Channel 4
I'm absolutely fine with `entrapment` of this type. And so should everyone else. But it isn't `entrapment` is it....
Lets keep it simple.... if you are in the game you are fair game.
No one is attempting to coerce me into meeting young children for nefarious purposes, and that's because i'm not a drooling pervert who trawls the `dark web` to find victims to prey upon. If someone is being coerced in this way, it's because they have shown an interest in it and made themselves available. Whether they would have gone through with it is utterly, utterly irrelevant.
Catch 'em anyway you can, and bang them away before they ruin lives.

Re: Undercover Police Channel 4
My wife works in one of these units.
I couldn’t do it. The stories she comes back with are harrowing.
What she has said though is that since the first lockdown, the rise in school kids viewing, downloading and distributing this material has gone through the roof. These kids are at home all day, sat on their computer, and the parents don’t have a clue what they’re up to.
Conservative estimates are that there are 400,000 individuals in the UK who are, or have been, involved in some way of the viewing and/or distributing of indecent material. The vast majority will be careful and go untraced.
As ever, the Police are just swamped.
