Thought our entire midfield looked poor today apart from McNeil.

Solid in defence but let’s be honest going forward they couldn’t string 5 passes together.

I'm sorry but if 3 of 4 were poor there's no way we wouldn't have got battered at Anfield.

I don't think Cork and Brownhill touched the ball 2nd half, they looked lost chasing shadows

We weren’t battered but wouldn’t exactly say we put up much of a fight. We were chasing shadows all second half. They should have really won that by 4 or 5 if it wasn’t for some exactly goal line clearances

Best chances was the Barnes 1 on 1 in the 93rd minute apart from that we had a few shots on goal from offside positions.

Decent industrial performance from the clarets but for 3 of our midfielders struggled to get involved in the game going forward. I think our best attacking play came from some good long passes from Tarks and Mee.
Best pass of the game was Mee to Lowton (Van Dijkesk)

Pope 7 - solid game from Pope came out well a couple.of times.
Lowton 7 - thought he played pretty well.
Tarkowski 7*- very solid I thought and a couple of really good switches. Unlucky not to score.
Mee 6 - switched off for the first goal unfortuately and uncharacteristically. Otherwise good, showed good anticipation reading a number of through balls first half.
Taylor 7 - a tough game as they outnumbered us regularly on that side but thought he dealt with it well.
Gudmunson 7 - looked really sharp again. Thought a couple of lay offs to Lowton should have been better though. A couple of good crossing opportunities missed.
Brownhill 6 - good energy in there and made some good interceptions.
Cork 6 - similar to Brownhill,a couple of nice longer range passes in there also.
McNeil 7 - really good first half but wish he would have stayed on his feet rather than trying to win a penalty.
Wood 7 - a real handful first half but slow of ffeet and mid on a couple of occasions. When Dwight played into him he should have been playing off to Barnses first time for a really strong chance.
Barnes 7 - the best we have seen for him in a long time.

A good team performance today, perhaps slightly unfortunate to be behind at half time after a really good start. Tough second half but hung in there and finished really well.

Strange game. I don’t think Liverpool had the best of games and we played ok but not exceptional.
2nd half we fell off the pace just like last week and we only made chances when Liverpool took their foot off the gas in the last couple of minutes.
Let’s hope there are a couple of additions in the squad for next weekend

Pope 7 - Some great claims today
Lowton 6 - Hard for him against pace and when the game is streched
Tarks 8 - Defended well but his distribution was bang on the money
Mee 7 - Covered well today at time, but minus 1 for letting Jota go for the first.
Taylor 6 - Another hard day for the lad, not easy because you want McNeil to have created freedom
Gudmundson 6 - Not really involed
Cork 6 - First half good, but when pressing and the game is bypassing he needed replacing
Brownhill 7 - Brought the energy for the full 90, would be nice to have two of him in these games
McNeil 8* - Tremendous, had TAA on toast a few times, made one great block on the line. Outstanding talent we need to support.
Wood 6 - Still lacking match fitness
Barnes 7 - Tireless, even going into the latter stages
Jay 7 - Did well, looked our most likely threat

Pope 7 little to do really
Lowton 5 nearly cost us a goal , poor crossing and slow as mud .
Tarks 8 mom typically beast showing
Mee 7 brave and steady
Taylor 7 thankless task vs Salah ,but he did very well
JBG 6 couple of early crosses but out of his depth
Cork 7 lively and combative if slow
Brownhill 7 as per cork with more speed
McNeil 7 great 1st half though final ball /finishing not great
Wood 5 poor , did very little
Barnes 6 argued and fouled couple of touches

Rodriguez 6 nice touches and 1st touch chance good effort
Pieters 6 very good chance 1 on 1 but fluffed did ok though

Can’t argue with most of that but Taylor 5 and Lowton 6?? Taylor handled Salah quite well and got forward . Lowton nearly cost us after failing to cross ,losing possession then being slower than a sloth trying to get back

Pope 6
Lowton 6
Mee 6 poor for first goal
Tarks 7
Taylor 7
JBG 5. Good first 20 mins then nothing
Brownhill 5
Cork 5
McNeil 8 tired in second half but our best by far
Wood 5. Still showing effects of Olympics
Barnes 7 improving but some way to go

Decent performance but 3 kids and 2 keepers on bench says it all. We are 2 games into the season and already down to the bare bones Unless we spend serious money we will go down. Let’s see some action Pace. Words don’t cut it

Pope 6
Lowton 6 (more poor crossing from positions we've worked blood hard to get into)
Mee 6 (poor for first goal)
Tarks 6 (poor for second goal)
Taylor 7 (I actually think he always plays Salah really well and I bet Salah doesn't relish playing against him.
Cork 6 (fell away second half)
Brownhill 6 (as Cork)
McNeil 8 (mom)
Barnes 6
Wood 5

Jay 6
Pieters 6

Yes, Liverpool were the better side, but that's to be expected at Anfield. We actually played fairly well imo, especially first half and I could see us scoring. Second half they ramped up the pressure and Dyche (unsurprisingly) only did something about it when it was too late and that's a fault of his, because if we'd have kept it to 1-0 into the final 10 minutes I'd have fancied us to nick summut. Both goals were poor from us unfortunately, but as mentioned, this is Liverpool at Anfield and you're always going to be under the cosh.

I thought we did really well today against an outstandingly good side. I’m not suggesting we were the better team but overall I can’t see how there can be any real negativity.

Tarkowski 7
Mee 7

Pope - 6 strangely no real saves to make.
Lowton - 7
Tarks - 7 played well, unlucky not to score
Mee - 6 lost Jota for the game killer
Taylor - 7
McNeil - 7 MOM , just needs a better decision when the goal is there, often hits it high and near post.
Brownhill - 6
Cork - 6
Gudmundsson - 6
Wood - 6 needed a different option with him. No real link up with Barnrs as too similar and Barnes struggled to pass to a shirt.
Barnes - 5 poor footballer, play breaks down usually when he is involved. Struggled on the turn over to even find a Burnley shirt.
Cannot be starting regularly for us.

We were playing Liverpool and didn't get hammered, so in the same way everyone lost a point last week because we should've beaten Brighton, they all earn one extra this week.

Pope 7
Lowton 8
Tarkowski 7
Mee 7
Taylor 9 up against Salah, MOM
Gudmundsson 6
Brownhill 7
Cork 7
McNeil 8
Wood 6
Barnes 7

Subs

Rodriguez 7
Pieters 7

Taylor 6
Brownhill 6
Cork 6
Jbg 6
Mc Neil 7
Wood 6
Barnes 6
Decent first half, faded badly in second. One positive we weren’t hammered but lack of investment is finally catching us up.

You must take in the quality of the opposition when awarding these scores. They were virtually at full strength with another team on the bench. Decent performance from us considering that.
Pope 7
Lowton 6
Mee 7
Tarks 7
Taylor 7
JBG 6
Brownhill 6
Cork 7
McNeil 7
Barnes 6
Wood 6
Jay 6
Peters 6
No bookings and competed well throughout. Just nothing on the bench to affect the performance.

All 6s bar Taylor 7 and McNeil 8. Played quite well in parts but still think we will struggle this season. Desperately need reinforcements but we knew that months and months ago. The first few games of the season do actually matter.

Pope 6
Lowton 7
Tarks 7
Mee 7
Taylor 7

JBG 6?
Brownhill 7
Cork 7
McNeil 8

Barnes 7
Wood 6

We played one of the best, multi- MULTI million club sides in the world today and, for all the first half and, parts of the second, gave them a game.
Apart from the odd lapse here & there, due to the world class players we took on, thought we were bloody good.

Pope 7 decent sweeping, does that well.
Lowton 7 decent game
Tarkowski 8 great player
Mee 7 quiet.
Taylor 6 quiet game
Gudmundsson 7 meh
Brownhill 6 just doesn't have the ability of a Premier league player unfortunately
Cork 6 quiet
McNeil 8 some really good moments
Wood 5 very quiet, not at it this season, worrying. Where the hell are goals going to come from???
Barnes 7 better than expected

Subs

Rodriguez meh
Pieters highlights our pathetic squad situation 😤

I looked at the BBC ratings for Burnley and the top score was less than 6 and most in the 4 zone and the score 2-0 to a world champion level team.

!0/10 for being there at Anfield today, as the pound for pound world champions that Burnley is and showing why.

Completely agree and couldn't have put it better myself.

Can’t argue with most of that but Taylor 5 and Lowton 6?? Taylor handled Salah quite well and got forward . Lowton nearly cost us after failing to cross ,losing possession then being slower than a sloth trying to get back
I was debating putting Taylor as a 6 but I kept finding him drifting infield so docked him down. Might have been a bit harsh in hindsight.

Some positives from the game but I think it highlighted our weaknesses

Sums it up perfectly to me. I just don’t understand how people can’t work it out who we were up against. Someone said to me today that no one would bat an eyelid of were beaten 2-0 by Barcelona or Real Madrid yet Liverpool are better than either of those two.
