Anne
I don’t know if any of you have watched this four part drama this week but I’ve just finished watch the final part.
Anne Williams brilliantly played by Maxine Peake.
I found the whole thing very moving, never more so than when one of the survivors was invited to go down the tunnel again at the Leppins Lane end but just couldn’t do it.

Re: Anne
Definitely on my watch list, but it does sound pretty graphic, so I'll pick my moment to view it.
Maxine Peake is usually brilliant whatever she's in, so I'm not surprised at the praise she's getting for this role.

Re: Anne
A really tough watch. Still so shocking the torture these families endured for so long due to the cover up. Agree about the scene when they went back to the Leppings Lane end very moving.

Same here Longtimeclaret, 13 years old with my dad, couldn't see a thing and remember it being very scary.Longtimeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 7:52 pmWill never forget the Fa Cup semi final v Newcastle 1974

I'm not generally a fan of dramatising real events like this, particularly ones in recent memory. I don't like the blurred line between fact and fiction. I'd rather watch a documentary or a completely fictional film. No doubt it will be well acted though, Maxine Peake is brilliant.

Documentary on ITV now.
Re: Anne
Just watched Episode 1, a tough watch so far, excellent acting mind from Anne.
I remember watching something on Hillsborough before, thst was horrendous.
So if this true story is anything like that it'll be lump in your throat and tears in your eyes stuff.

Re: Anne
Very moving and true to life dramatisation of an horrific and tragic episode in the history not only of the sport but of our country.
We were both in tears on several occasions. (Some of them tears of anger).
This evening's documentary is also a harrowing reminder of what those families had to endure.

Re: Anne
It’s funny how you change as you get older, I was about 19 and we had just played and we went into the old Corals at side of the ground and I can remember a guy say “ffing scousers at it again we’ll never get in Europe” and all I thought of was English clubs not playing in Europe not for the people that died. This was the myth that was perpetuated for the next few months and thankfully justice was done for the families and my heart goes out to them.

Moving documentary too tonight.
Really difficult watch over the last few days but I’m so pleased I watched it. We all owe Anne Williams a great debt of gratitude.

Amazingly that was 15 years before the tragedy.

It was the same for the 1983 fa cup quarterfinal replay. Talk about a ticking time bomb…Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 7:24 amSo have I. Was submitted to crowd crushing in on me at that end during the 1974 semi final against Newcastle.

Re: Anne
I was in that end twice, promotion season and the FA cup semi. Everyone headed for the tunnel, it is the first thing you see. No fences no pens when we were there, it was a crush no doubt so crowd spreads sideways. Liverpool couldn’t do that. Went to spurs Chelsea at old white hart lane and nearly saw the same thing. Chelsea fans crammed into pens with half empty pens beside them. At least nobody tried to stop them climbing out of the pens. Don’t miss the treat fans like cattle days.
Re: Anne
Such a difficult painful watch , respect to all the families who suffered not just deaths of their loved ones but the horrendous treatment they received from the establishment and press ,no one should have to go through what they went through.

Re: Anne
Heartbreaking stuff, what a woman she was and God Bless the 97
Re: Anne
Finished watching them last night, a very hard watch, but wow what a fighter Anne was.
She really did get them some justice, when it seemed no one else wanted the truth to come out.
Not usually an emotional person at the best of times never mind with films and documentary's, but you cant not get a tear in your eyes at then end.
RIP Anne, and the 97
