First game of pre-season
Wonder where and when this will be.
Don’t know if it would be on the scale of that friendly at Bradford in 2009 but imagine there will be a strong support for Kompany’s first game!

I'd like a return to Accy, in the sunshine, on a weekend. I miss those friendlies.
Who can forget Besart Berisha beating 8 players (by luck as much as skill) and scoring his only goal for Burnley

Re: First game of pre-season
Coyle was asked about the Berisha goal at a Q&A night just before the season started and his answer was to tell us that the goal he scored in Belfast was better. That was the night he told us how good Remco van der Schaaf was and how he would make Chris McCann a better player.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:05 pmI'd like a return to Accy, in the sunshine, on a weekend. Re: First game of pre-season
I confess I had no idea Berisha had scored more than 1 for us! I was always disappointed he never got a try after he got back to fitness for us, he was outstanding in that England B game (interestingly - the last ever England B international, I do believe). I think Berisha went on to become Australia's top goalscorer in the history of the A-League, so he made a good career out of it living in a lovely country at least.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:30 pmCoyle was asked about the Berisha goal at a Q&A night just before the season started and his answer was to tell us that the goal he scored in Belfast was better. I don't think Coyle quite got that right about VDS...

Re: First game of pre-season
I worded that badly. The goal in Belfast that Coyle was raving about was scored by Coyle.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:35 pmI confess I had no idea Berisha had scored more than 1 for us! No idea what happened with Berisha but when he got fit he was told straight away that he wasn’t wanted.

Re: First game of pre-season
Just seen on Twitter that Macclesfield have announced 10 home pre season friendlies. You can get a bargain 10 games for the price of 10.
Seems an awful lot.

Friendly games are still locked in Alan Pace’s room 101!

Back to Ireland. Promotion the first time under SD, European qualification the next, playing in Europe the third.
They need to come back.

Re: First game of pre-season
That Bradford preseason away game was nuts - does my memory serve me correctly thinking that some busses were temp put on to get clarets from the train station to valley parade?
I can remember seeing clarets everywhere in the town and getting on to the ground relatively early - their stewards were trying to shepherd us all into one little section and I recall me and my old man telling them you need to open up more of the stand or there could be a bit of a disaster brewing…
… low and behold we sold out their two smaller stands. Crazy

it HAS to be back to North Carolina and the facilities provided at the WakeMed Soccer Park. Coyle promotion season, a certain flash director got into all kinds of schemes and deals, none of which panned out, but it allowed USA Clarets to go on tour

Wasn’t it all arranged quite late last season as well?

Re: First game of pre-season
Don’t think it was quite this late. Sean Dyche will have had things planned I’m sure but we have probably waited for the new manager to be installed. I suppose it makes it more difficult when you leave it late. I remember us rushing round to sort out the Austria trip in 2004 after Steve Cotterill came in.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 11:18 amWasn’t it all arranged quite late last season as well?

Re: First game of pre-season
you seriously have to worry about the people running our Club! Pre-season games area must and the longer you leave it the less choice we have!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 11:15 amThe reason nothing has been divulged is because nothing has been arranged, or hasn’t been earlier this week.

Re: First game of pre-season
I would always prefer the manager to make the arrangements because he'll want it to fit in with his own pre-season plans. I know a few weeks ago when Pace mentioned America and I could imagine Dyche shuddering about that.

Down here in Lincolnshire, I have been asked if I am going to the Forest v Burnley pre season game. They are convinced we are playing them.
