Car parking space for those driving
https://www.yourparkingspace.co.uk/?gcl ... -XEALw_wcB
This site has an agreement with B&Q and Adsa that let's you park for £3 and £3.75 both are 12 minutes walk away from the ground and within 5 minutes from the motorway so easy to get back not getting stuck in traffic

I don't know why but we've often found parking difficult at Wigan. I know where the Asda is.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 10:36 amCar parking space for those driving

What's it like walking from the train station and back. Always gone on coach or by car.
I seen a bit of trouble on Saturday with Preston on the canal near a bridge. Fans on twitter saying it happens quite a lot down there?

Last time we went in those car parks, we came out of the ground in torrential rain, got drenched and then they held us back for so long it was ridiculous.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 10:45 amIt's got the biggest car parks in the world next to the ground.

I think I'll go on the train. The ground looks so close when you're pulling into the station, but it's deceptive. It's a good twenty minutes brisk walk.
You do have to be careful on the walk to the ground, but if you keep your head down and your mouth shut you won't have any trouble.

Re: General Info - Wigan (a)
Avoid at all costs parking on the car park of the DW gym. It's probably one of the closest to the ground and it is a fiver...well it was the last time. However it is pay by phone/app and when i was hoping to park on there when we played them preseason a few years back I couldn't get a good enough phone signal and gave it up as a bad job and parked on the official car park further up the road.
Two weeks later I had a fine from ParkingEye. I appealed in vain. However I stood my ground as in my eyes I was never parked up and all the time I was there I was attempting to pay.
Off to court we went and the judge might as well have laughed at their representative. In fact in the recess given for the judge to adjudicate, their solicitor said he knew I'd won...and probably had from the start.
It was worth the hassle in the end but it's obviously best not to even go on their car parks.

It's a bit of a bottleneck down there with thousands of people all heading back to the town centre. Not surprised there's trouble, particularly after local derbies.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 10:44 amWhat's it like walking from the train station and back. Usually loads of police both sides of the bridge to sort the small skirmishes out, wouldn’t worry about it too much.

So how does that work then, presumably ANPR that knows you've paid for a space longer than a regular shopper?AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Tue Aug 02, 2022 5:57 am

Re: General Info - Wigan (a)
The walk to the ground from the station was shall we say interesting when we first played there in 1999. There was a big police escort , they forced us into an industrial estate rather than over the canal away from a pub. Would expect it will be heavily policed again however I don't expect it to be anything like it was then.
Also parked near to the old ground, off Woodhouse Lane when lost 1-0 Moses late goal. That was okay but after the game the police wouldn't let you walk the same back which is to prevent you getting to the canal bridge where it kicks off I think.
Parked on DW 2013, took forever to get off.

The pubs near the station looked like pubs near a train station, dives basically. Further up the hill and to the left the are better from memory.

against PNE bottles and bricks were thrown by both sets of fans and pepper spray used by police - they let PNE out at the same time as Wigan. As with any derby game, be aware of it. I think I've been to Wigan 5 or 6 times and have seen trouble on every occasionLoyalclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 11:22 pmUsually loads of police both sides of the bridge to sort the small skirmishes out, wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Re: General Info - Wigan (a)
Pubs: Swan and Railway opposite station, Wigan Central under bridge and just on left in the arches.
Both of these great for Real Ale.
If your not a real Ale drinker Berkerley Square or Moon under water.
If you are parking at Asda or B and Q get off Motorway at Jun 26 ( M58) far nearer than the Standish turn off,
and you don't get into to Robin Park (retail park )traffic

I have booked a space via Just Park. Bit weird as you're parking on someone's drive but there are some spaces relatively close to the ground and parking can be difficult at Wigan. Cost me £6.49 all in.

Re: General Info - Wigan (a)
Two stations more or less opposite each other on Wallgate. If your coming via Preston you'll get off at North Western, via Bolton into Wallgate. Manchester trains go into both stations. There's not a hundred yards between the stations. Turn left coming out of NW and right coming out of Wallgate to get to the ground. You can take short cuts, that's were there's normally problems but if you keep on the main road down towards Asda and Robin Park on the main road you'll be ok.

Looking like problems with trains (Avanti) from Preston to Wigan.
Still a Northern train running but with a bigger wait at Preston.
Looks like it will be easier to go on the Manchester train.

Just a heads up for anyone getting the 10:29 train from Preston to Wigan tomorrow, It has been cancelled!!
Thrown a bit of a spanner in the works for my plans as travelling from Leyland, hopefully not too many others as there are a few trains to Wigan around that time

Probably easier going into Preston then heading back that way, our leaves Preston at 10am (Avanti service) but doesn't stop there, think there was once at 10.10 and 10.20 if we missed the 10am. Don't think any stopped at Leyland thoughbfcbri wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 2:54 pmJust a heads up for anyone getting the 10:29 train from Preston to Wigan tomorrow, It has been cancelled!!

Re: General Info - Wigan (a)
I would normally park on the official car park..after my experience of attempting to park on the DW gym car park...but this time I'm perhaps thinking of parking the other side of the canal bridge somewhere off Woodhouse Lane to save myself a fiver. Anyone any experience of parking over that way? Good street parking etc?
Little worried about being able to get back over the canal bridge after the game. Do away fans get directed away from there? Don't fancy the long walk round afterwards. I'll be wearing no colours and will be with my daughter so will be a case of head down anyway.
Advice appreciated.

The Police could easily sort this before it happens like keeping away fans back for ten minutes until the Wigan fans have gone, but they don't because they love it, they use this like live training.

Quite a few cancellations already for those planning to change at Preston on the train. Two potential ones back from Wigan have already been cancelled also. Hopefully, but I’m not optimistic, no more follow suit.

Whalley Clarets inaugural outing to the possession cup today. Domestic bail restrictions, family holidays and York Races have cost us dear so far this season. We are quorate with a burgeoning 2 active members since Gaz got the classic missus ultimatum and failed to respond with the standard ‘hey love cute blondes are 2 a penny but there’s only 1 BFC’ . RIP Gaz you will be missed on the battlefield but remember IKEA on a Saturday has nutritious meatballs at half-time so there’s that. Riding the iron horse via Bolton no strikes/cancellations on that route at the moment. New teeth so no scrapping just dominoes with Wanky wanderers casuals on the bowton boulevard this year. Once more into the breach dear friends. HUSSARRRRRRR
