Westwood 10 weeks away

Post by agreenwood » Sat Aug 20, 2022 4:01 pm

Positive news from Ashley on Clarets Plus.

Back running next week and thinks he’s 10 weeks away from playing again.

Good news, competition in the midfield.

Subject to any setbacks, think the plan was always to try to get him playing (behind closed doors & U21's) before the break. Twelve weeks left in this batch of games.

He will then hopefully be fully involved in the squad in mid December. 🤞

Not sure Westwood gets in the first choice side tbh.

Can’t wait for that telling ball over the shoulder and into the “channels”. Whilst VK bellows “Shape !” from the sidelines.

Westwood was good to listen to today. Was very complimentary about the new players fitting into the club so quickly and also called for fans to remain calm regarding the playing out from the back.

Maybe not and we don't know how much his injury affects him but he's good on the ball and has a good engine, he will not play the same way he did under Dyche/Jackson.

The break for the world cup will give him the chance to get used to how he is expected to play in the new system.

It'll be great to see him back.

I’m yet to be convinced that Cullen is better than Westwood. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying overall that I’m disappointed with Cullen but I do think (as Cork has shown) that there is such a gap between prem and champ, that a comfortable / capable premier league centre mid will shine at this level, and that’s exactly what Westwood has been (how he recovers from injury will be crucial)
