Well - the first part, metaphorically, could refer to the mighty Clarets - but the second part rules us out!
As others have said, it’s Everton.

Always = ever;

Heavy weight = ton.

Team in trouble: just sacked manager, in relegation spot in Premier League.

This cryptic crossword, of course, was compiled for confirmation of Sean Dyche's appointment this afternoon.
