What could possibly make him think the 'handball' wasn't deliberate? Controversial whenever he officiated it seems.

He had a really good view of the handball so I have no idea how it wasn’t given. Shocking decision. Also a bizarre yellow to Maatsen first half when he was the one who got fouled.

It’s a different result without him which is the true reflection of his performance. He really needs to retire.

the handball looked like it was both hands and not just one, unfathomable decision not to give it

Thought he was shite. I know refs are trying to let more go this season, but Rotherham got away with far too much pushing, pulling and were overly physical. There was an incident towards the end where their defence catches Benson with a stray arm in the face as he goes past him and nothing is given.

Awful tonight, looked like a homer. The linesmen were worse

I can't believe the number of times their players got away with rough house tactics off the ball, blocking our players runs and shoving them with their arms even in the face a few times. It was so blatant but also blatanantly ignored, they should all change their names to Homer Simpson.

I’m glad this was picked up by others because I thought I was seeing things when in front of the linesman (literally 1 yard) benson got round his player and immediately pulled up after being pushed and caught in the eye - I know sometimes it seems that our players go down a bit easily at times but he really made no fuss of this and no damage was done but he was obviously caught and the lineman obviously saw it.

Yep. Took this seasons directive to an extreme. Offered a good footballing side zero protection all night.

The ref was garbage, but unfortunately we lost our heads and spent the entire game in the referee's ear, this included Kompany who I thought was going to get his marching orders. We should have risen above it and kept our heads but I feel this contributed to us losing control of the game.

I was quite surprised how animated VK was. I think the off the ball rough house tactics being completely ignored was getting to him. Rotherham were a very physical side and the way they impeded BPF for the first goal and disrupted our play by pushing and blocking players was very clever. Didn't make for very nice viewing but it worked for them and completely fooled the officials, either that or they were complete homers.

I wasn’t at the game so have only seen the highlights. We all knew beforehand they would be physical and whilst I note the comments about their player standing in front of BPF for their first goal I’m sorry but time and time again I see these keepers flapping about. BPF should have been muscling ( taking him out, lock stock and barrel) the lad out of the way just before the ball was floated in. Keepers are generally protected by referees so to me there was no excuse not to get that ball. I’ve always stuck up for BPF but that “effort” was embarrassing. Their second goal was simply bad marking, in my opinion of course.

Not controversial..he's just blind as a bat and sees nothing.

Having now seen a rerun of the penalty shout, how on earth he didn't give that given his exellent positioning is staggering. The Maatsen yellow was very harsh, but he could have sent Benson off for a second yellow as well
