Zero chance England will win this tournament!
After watching the last 3 games we've played, there's not a cat in hells chance we're going to win. We may have a great squad, but we've got a poor team and I don't think Southgate has the ability to make them gel. Stranger things have happened and I hope I'm wrong, I doubt it though.

Not quite zero chance, just slightly more chance than the Jocks.

I’ve just posted on the Euro thread that I honestly think we would have a better chance if we sacked Southgate forthwith and replaced him with the woman who manages the Lionesses.

Dyche wins this tournament with the players available for England.
Re: Zero chance England will win this tournament!
A tournament where there’s been lots of positive high pressing and it’s been decent to watch….. apart from England. A side who’s players are use to the high press week in week out but instead they are set up to sit back with isolated pressing and two banks attempting to counter when they’ve scored. Its completely alien to them and so frustrating.

That’s the worst performance in a long time. Time for Southgate to be booted and let Eddie have a go.

I think we have a very good squad that is capable of winning this tournament. Unfortunately we have a manager who isn’t

Impossible to call this a good squad when it doesn't include a fit left back. Weaknesses in central midfield and central defence. Some world class players but gaps elsewhere.

Re: Zero chance England will win this tournament!
Dyche infamously good in cup competitions..
Re: Zero chance England will win this tournament!
But who picked the squad.
If the system was tweaked anyway to play 3 at the back it would be better than shoehorning trippier in at left back.
Southgate is tactically inept and is as inspiring as a blob of wet concrete.
Regardless there’s enough talent there to beat anyone else at the tournament.
What will happen though is England will slide through until they meet their first good side and then the inevitable will happen in extra time or penalties.
Re: Zero chance England will win this tournament!
We have some of the best attacking players in the world, yet we play with two defensive midfielders.
We should be aiming to outscore teams and forget about being defensive

Southgate should have gone after the World Cup
He is a useless coach who struggles to get anything out of some of the best English players in a generation. But to suggest Eddie Howe; who remember bombed at Burnley, as a replacement is i a joke

Re: Zero chance England will win this tournament!
I’d certainly not back this team based on recent performances! There’s a Burnley season ticket holder that needs England for £20k+ he’s has them in his bet builders for the past 12 months, with a few big races.
Think France also brings him a decent return.

Re: Zero chance England will win this tournament!
I think we will batter Slovenia as a back lash and realistically we are already through so Southgate can put an attacking team out. Then we will win the first knock out game with a descent performance. Then we will come across a half descent team and play defensive and get knocked out with a whimper. It’s too predictable

Of course england can win it !
all this slagging southgate nonsense is terrible. He has been a very good manager so he deserves credit for getting more out of his squad than umpteen previous coaches.
Its just become the thing to do thesedays, ridicule the bloke because england arent thrashing every team they face.
probably a mixture of Sun style journalism, talk sport dross, and drunken fans who havent a clue, but enjoy being seen throwing beer in the air in carefully choreographed celebrations.
they are all but through to the next section in top spot again, how is that not an achievement?

Re: Zero chance England will win this tournament!
Team v Slovenia has to be
————————Pickford
TAA———Stones———Guehi——Gomez
—————Wharton——Rice
Saka———-—Bellingham———-Gordon
—————-———Kane
It addresses several key issues
Balance: Wharton is two footed, primarily left, while Gomez can actually use his left foot, unlike Trippier. This creates better passing angles and makes retaining possession more natural, while now it’s forced.
Width: Gordon can play the role of providing the width we are missing on the left, this in turn allows more space for Kane to play in, with Bellingham, Saka and Gordon making runs beyond him
Better passers from deep: any team that wants to dominate the ball (which given our squad we should be doing) needs someone to be comfortable receiving the ball deep, playing on the half turn, fizzing simple balls quickly, one-two touch, Wharton offers that despite inexperience. Playing Trent at right back also allows better ball progression than Walker offers. Keeping in mind the above point of runners beyond Kane, Trent’s passing in behind will help create chances.
Round pegs, round holes: Rice played (and shone) alongside Jorginho (the 6, the sitte) all season at Arsenal, why’s he playing as a sole 6? His build up from deep is very basic and isn’t utilising his strength (aggressive ball winning & ball carrying). Foden is a wonderful player but without a genuine wing back it’s pointless playing him from the left unfortunately.
All these points and issues i’d addressed before heading into the Euros on the ‘pick your team’ thread, so it’s not been entirely surprising to see how we’ve played.

I’d sack Southgate now, because this is tournament football and with him in charge we have no chance.
I’d offer Klopp a million quid to take charge and a 10 million bonus if we win.
I’m not even joking. England have a great chance of winning on paper, and zero chance with Southgate in charge, so sack him now

The problem is we are so awful to watch. I could only put up with the first half in each game. So I'm not going to watch them anymore.

I do however agree England can still win it, but let's not pretend it's because of Southgates ability. Citing his record completely ignores the incredibly favourable draws we've had since his appointment, maybe he's a lucky manager? That might be enough.

Watching England under Southgate is like watching someone learning how to play chess. The hesitant rookie knows what the pieces are and their moves, but has no idea about how to implement a strategy in order to get the most out of his best pieces.

Re: Zero chance England will win this tournament!
The Premier League is considered by some to be the best league in the world, it isn’t. The Bundesliga and La Liga are better. It is made what it is by quality foreign players who improve the English players around them. Walker & Stones are quality defenders all the rest, including Pickford, wouldn’t get near the Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal squads.
As a nation we sell out every time to the media hype. Then the media shame them for not doing better when they usually finish exactly where they deserve to be.
