For all intent and purpose, it's a 'modern' car, if your current mechanic is competent an S type should present no challenge.

Bit outside your distance but I would suggest worth it:

Re: S Type Jag
I take it you're referring to the 1999-2008 Jaguar S-Type, rather than the 1963-68 version ...
They're now very cheap, but go for a 2004 post facelift car as a lot of the earlier faults/glitches were sorted then. The 3l Petrol or 2.7D are the best engines. Avoid high mileage " Type-R's " however cheap. The 4l V8 drinks like Oliver Reed ... Also remember that it was a £30,000 - £40,000 car when new 20 years ago, and the cost of servicing & parts will reflect that ... This one looks to be the sort of thing ..

Re: S Type Jag
Handy for me, living in Preston, they look after my XF, not exactly a classic but a superb motor car. Top to bottom they are very knowledgeable and use at least 1 S type as a courtesy car and, unlike most main dealerships, give it to you straight.Claretitus wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 7:12 pmCan echo that. I live in Broughton, and the Jag Centre looked after many old classics that belonged to a mate of mine. He swore by them.

Re: S Type Jag
Second hand prices are very strong at the moment so if you can get £12,000 for the Mini, then it's the time to follow your heart. Old Jaguars with big engines aren't the flavour of the month, but for a gentleman of a " certain age ", who isn't doing a lot of miles, they're ideal, like driving in an armchair ! Don't die wondering ...Stonehouse wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 8:08 pmThanks for that ,I’ve a 2018 Cooper S Hatch at the moment worth around £12000 and one day my heart says spent £6000 on a jag and have £ 5000 available for repairs and the day after head says keep what you have plus I need to convince my wife .
