Esteve goal kicks

Post by blatherwickstattoos » Tue Dec 10, 2024 11:10 pm

What’s the point ??? We play it to Trafford who then plays it to a full back who then plays it to Trafford who then kicks it 50 yards and we lose it.

We are wasting our own time doing this. It’s bizzare

There are people who think passing completion percentage and good football are correlated. It's hard to watch for me.

All the clubs do this now. Parker’s nothing if not firmly textbook.

Lim sure if Kompany’s team were doing it, coughing up possession and conceding goals nothing would be said, but cos it’s Parker, get him hammered.

Proper sense of entitlement creeping into the fan base.

It’s a general thing in football now.

I suspect it’s to try and “stretch” the pitch.

Half the sides just use it for time wasting.

Keeper kicks to a CH, lone forward closes space between CH and GK and forces play up the wing.
CH kicks to GK and the lone forward has to decide which out ball to block and play can still advance up the middle or inside channel.
Of course any benefit supposes that play does then advance up the pitch rather than just get recycled through the back four.

Certainly is. Needs binning off and going back to the old rule.

They need to go back to the rule whereby no players are allowed inside the penalty area on goal kicks.

Even the long balls from Trafford did nothing. Their centre backs had Flemming just where they wanted him, did he actually win anything?

Yeah, don't remember anyone complaining when we were regularly giving up goals doing it last season.

The goal kicks themselves aren’t the problem, it’s the tempo in which the passes are made.

There’s no sense of urgency, no quick switches of play from one side of the pitch to the other and no quick breaks while the opposition are out of position.

Proper ponderous pass it about for the sake of it stuff.

This was the big change that meant so many teams started trying to play this way. It meant your defenders could get away with not being top class technically to attempt it.

When they had to wait for the ball to get to them outside the box players would be on them straight away.
I distinctly remember Harry Redknapps QPR trying it against us in Dyches first promotion season and we just ended up on top of them winning the ball back constantly.

I wonder if a longer term effect has and will continue to be been the decline of managers like Dyche etc because every new rules seems to be skewed against those older style coaches

It’s getting to the point now where I don’t want to watch football. Champions league, internationals and us. Football in general is boring.

When he brought flemming off for a straight swap with Jay instead of taking one of the midfielders off was a sign that parker is more bothered about clean sheets than scoring goals. Horrible football, horrible tactics

Fully agree, got to wonder what Parker was watching last night to think that we needed to keep Laurent, Cullen and Brownhill all on the pitch at that stage.

The likes of Russell Martin and VK are pathetic for playing that way in the prem when it leads to only one outcome.

Was hoping to have at least 2 up front at that stage, leaving 3 at the back and going for it

It’s the latest gimmicky trend that all clubs have to do. Its not just us, it’s a part of the ‘passing for the sake of it’ style that making football duller by the week.

Proper sense of entitlement creeping into the fan base.
Is it entitlement or just ambition and increased expectation as we’ve spent so many years in the Premier League? Fans pay good money to watch something exciting, not the dross we are being served up currently.
