Set pieces yesterday

Post by NewClaret » Fri Dec 27, 2024 12:12 pm

I’m not a fan of short set pieces but yesterday I thought we executed them brilliantly. They couldn’t read or handle them.

Also defended theirs brilliantly given the size of their team.

Well done set piece coach.

Definitely an improvement and only one of our set-pieces ended up with Trafford

There have been a couple of times this season we’ve tried some inventive set pieces particularly corners. Obviously don’t always come off but good to see some variation.

I wonder who played Callum O'hare in training, that was the most technical part of the set piece!

Watching it back, his free kick wasn’t as bad as it looked live. Not sure if he was planning to go low or chip it over the wall, but it was actually going in and nearly snuck through a parting wall only for a player to stick his leg out.

Anyhow, that’s what happens when you buy a ticket!

We’ve been terrible on set pieces generally for a while but the key now is we are varying them so we are more unpredictable for the opposition.

We had the bar set frighteningly low before.

Mixing it up a bit should have started happening at least a year ago.

It's quite exciting to think it's a whole area of the game where we can carry an additional threat mind. We could blow this division apart if we click on attacking set pieces.
