Very sad but not unexpected. Listened regularly to Sounds of the 70's on Sunday afternoons and it was clear when he announced his retirement in October that time wasn't on his side. RIP Johnny. Gave a lot of people wonderful entertainment.

My favourite DJ ever. Knew his music, researched artists he was interviewing and then did so with charm and humour. His autobiography was excellent and an easy read.

Remember listening to him on Radio Luxembourg when I was a kid. Great DJ. RIP Johnny Walker.

Really sad news, if as others have said not totally unexpected. Johnnie Walker, the ultimate DJ. Thanks for being the soundtrack of my radio listening dating back to mid 60's. 'Goodbye Johnnie be good'. A true legend Johnnie Walker RIP.

Sad news. For me he was always the best DJ on the radio for just about all my life. Along with Stuart Henry way back they played music I wanted to listen to.

JW had a bit of devil in him too occasionally upsetting the bosses at "the beeb" which I kind of liked about him.

RIP Johnny Walker.

The best ever DJ on radio in my humble opinion.
RIP Johnny Walker.
His signature tune. 👌

What a very sad day. Best DJ by far and a big part of my youth.

Thanks for posting his theme tune - evoked great memories and, not ashamed to say, brought a tear to my eyes.

RIP Johnny, and thank you so much.

Very sad. I don’t mind admitting I was in tears when he did his very last Sunday show and not that long ago either. Such a brave man talking about what was to come. During Covid Johnny and his wife did a request for me, for our only grandchild Joey who was 6 months old, we were missing him so much, it was lovely what he did, it was only a few months later that we lost Joey unexpectedly. I’ll never forget him reading it out, I can hear him speaking now. God bless you Johnny.

A proper DJ, who passionately loved radio and music. This always came across in his broadcasting, delivered in that wonderful voice. Another radio legend gone. RIP

Very sad. Only left the BBC recently on health grounds. As said above, a great DJ, with an enormous depth of musical knowledge.
Came across as a great guy, and everyone who had any contact with him said the same. Legend.

RIP Johnny

Very sad, if not entirely unexpected news.
I liked Johnny’s calm, reflective approach. He was a good interviewer, and an excellent presenter.
And ever since I can remember listening to the radio, he was there.
RIP Johnny. Another good man gone.

End of an era. Very sad news.
Johnny Walker was the epitome of a radio dj. Not a presenter or an entertainer just a brilliant dj.
Sadly a dying art.
