Set Pieces

Post by HuncoatClaret » Sat Feb 01, 2025 5:45 pm

We've scored 1 set piece all season,
Dara O'Shea Vs Luton.
We must be the only team who consistently use away swinging corners.

O shea would have notched probably 4 or 5 this seasonas hes much lore of a threat - our current CBs are not much of a threat in the opposition box. Those goals likely to be useful ones in tight games. Exactly why we shouldn't have sold him (and why Parker was obviously furious about him going)

Agree that we need to improve this aspect of our play. It’d be nice to at least have this string to our bow going forward.

We are good at defending them tho, so our maligned set piece coach deserves some credit.

We would have probably conceded 4 or 5 more at least with O'shea playing this season

We defend everything else well, more to do with that I would suggest.

Genuinely can’t remember the last time I got excited about an attacking set piece, we’re absolutely shocking at them.

Anyone who scores from a corner gets sold, so be careful what you wish for.

We look more threatening from their goalkicks than from our own corners.

I’d like to know how many of our corners end up at Trafford - most obviously but would good to know exactly.
There’s an extra 5-10 points available before the end of the season if we get this right - whilst they have slightly improved of late they are still pitiful.

I always get excited about an attacking set piece. What else is there to get excited about? Occasionally we even put the ball into the box, though I suspect Parker secretly prefers the series of short passes that finishes up at Trafford.

How I enjoyed Roberts' series of long throws against Leeds, where as the throw-ins got nearer and nearer to the goalline, he had to throw it further and further to get it back to Egan-Riley in his own half.

I would guess we’re up to well over 100+ corners/free kicks without even creating a chance.

How on earth that set piece coach is still in a job baffles me

I just can't fathom how CJ and Max are so good in our area, defending them, and so poor in theirs, attacking them. and it isn't the delivery.

I was told he is doing a good job in defence so should dismiss the issue
