Ashley Barnes
Seems clear to me Parker didn’t want him.
Doesn’t trust him to make an impact by bringing him on 20 minutes to go to affect a game.
Glenn Little hit the nail on the head on radio Lancs - he must be brilliant at card tricks around the training ground.
Absolute waste of a wage for me when we could have got a younger player in.

Re: Ashley Barnes
I think Pace new Jay Rod was leaving and thought the fans needed another Claret legend to keep us happy.
He's not good enough for this level any more.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Was in the minority on here when i said it was a bizarre signing. People using the old "good in the dressing room" excuse.
Re: Ashley Barnes
How would we know? I suspect he is. We never even tried to get the ball to him, in his 5 minutes.
Re: Ashley Barnes
He's a legend, but it was quite telling that one of the biggest positives folk came up with regarding his re-signing was the potential that he might give Mike Tresor a good hiding!
I don't know if he could make an impact on the field, but bringing him on with 89 mins gone is no way to find out.

Re: Ashley Barnes
I was wrong about him 2 years ago when I thought he was finished at this level.
I’m back to thinking he’s finished and currently fairly confident I won’t be wrong this time.
Lyle’s missed a lot of football in the last 18 months, so there’s a genuine likelihood that Barnes could become Plan B during the run in.
I’d feel a lot more confident if we got another striker in before Tuesday.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Cheap signing to make the fans feel good and to allow us to move Jay on (presumably we're better off financially for it). Not the worst thing in the world. Shouldn't prohibit us signing a striker for the team.
Parker may want to say something at some point about Pace signing ex-players without consulting him given this is likely the second such case this season, but then maybe the next one will be Nathan Tella and nobody would mind that.

There’s absolutely no chance Tella would come back.

Don't see any particular reason this is so set in stone if we get promoted.

Re: Ashley Barnes
He was signed when he was to upset ******* Rovers. Job done in that regard, but we desperately need another striker in.
Whether Parker would play two strikers is another question.

Have we got that much money we can afford to pay Barnes a wage to be a court jester?

Re: Ashley Barnes
Harsh ,Ash should have had at least 30 mins to unsettled one of the worst defences in the Championship. 5 mins on was beyond bizarre as was not utilising Benny against a tiring defence

He was in the team until injury. Making his way back and getting a few mins.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Bit of a presumption that Parker isn’t consulted about signings. Do you have an inside source?daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 6:17 pm

Watch the Norwich away game after the match, and it looks like Parker and Ash were chatting like old m8's. Parker had his arm around Ashes shoulder and as soon as I heard Ash was coming back my mind went to that moment ... I feel Parker had a helluva lot to do with bringing Ash back.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 6:08 pmI think Pace new Jay Rod was leaving and thought the fans needed another Claret legend to keep us happy.

A successful squad NEEDS experienced players. Those players are essential to harmony, setting standards and managing issues.
Barnes is worth his weight in gold, as is Cork as was Jay.
The mental fragility of some of the fanbase tonight makes me worry.

Re: Ashley Barnes
I agree re Barnes and cork, Barnes shouldn’t be the game changing striker on the bench, we need a number 9 alongside the Edward’s signingCooclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 7:24 pmChrist on a bike!

Re: Ashley Barnes
If that's true wouldn't it have been cheaper to just move Cork from his youth coaching role to the first team bench? Or do both even?Cooclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 7:24 pmChrist on a bike!

Re: Ashley Barnes
Will we ever know how good any of the strikers are when we play 1 up top?

Re: Ashley Barnes
Exactly. Barnes should be brought on to get stuck in up front so that the wingers have two men to cross to, and Flemming has someone to feed off.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 8:58 pmWill we ever know how good any of the strikers are when we play 1 up top?
Glen Little on Radio Lancs today missed the point about Barnes - He was saying that Parker clearly doesn't want him, because if he did he would be bringing him on with 25 minutes to go when we need a goal. But to Parker, if it's nil-nil with 25 minutes to go against the bottom of the league, we don't need a goal. We have a point, which is a good result (to Parker). That's why he will never, if we are level, bring on a second striker - because he feels that we are risking our point from the 0-0 draw if we make a serious attempt to go for the win.

Re: Ashley Barnes
Why do we have to have a blasphemous comment repeated ? We have long since thankfully abandoned any descriptive comments that might (or will,) cause offence but to use the name of Jesus as some kind of swear word is still fair game. When we see players coming on to the pitch at the start of a game at The turf quite a few 'cross themselves' out of respect to their faith. Not everyone feels the same way but there is no need to be offensive.
