The Brutalist (Film)

Post by Rowls » Wed Mar 26, 2025 9:15 pm

I'm planning on watching this film but wanted to court opinions beforehand.

Given how long it is, it's going to need some psychological prep.

Any advice or comments on the film or how to train before taking the plunge?

Actually bought this yesterday, after reading a couple of reviews.
Here's one : https://www.theguardian.com/film/articl ... dApp_Other

But I'm late home tonight now, so it'll have to wait.

It’s a bit niche to an extent, but I recall on another thread about architecture that you seemed to have more than a passing interest. So from that point of view you may appreciate it more than some random person going in blind.

It’s overly long in my opinion and I reckon you could have knocked 30 minutes plus off the watching time. However there is an intermission that lasts 15 minutes. Brody is very good, I went to watch on the strength of liking him in Winning Time about The LA Lakers rather than my love of architecture.

Would I recommend it, probably not, but you can see why it got the Oscar’s nominations it did.

I often overlook a film of it's over 2 hours. But then I'll sit there and watch 5 X 1hr episodes of a programme on Netflix easily enough. Must be a mental thing.
