A Sheff Wed supporting mate and I were sitting chewing the fat over this weekend's promotion and relegation variables and a question we couldn't answer came up...
If Millwall sneak in the play-offs (which obviously we are hoping they don't!), can Zian Flemming return to them at the end of his loan with us to play for them? I know there's the complication of the obligation to buy which might muddy the waters.
Equally are there other loanees in the same boat that could return to parent clubs and appear - or do FA rules prohibit it? I know when we had Rhys Williams in 2009 his loan didn't extend to the play-offs and the Dancing Duff was re-instated for the three games but do loans now have play-off extension triggers? Or do loans just run till (e.g.) May 31st to cover all eventualities?
Does anyone know...?

Re: Flemming eligible for play offs...?
There is no transfer window before the playoffs, which I believe means that he can't re-register for Millwall.

Re: Flemming eligible for play offs...?
When Rhys WIlliams was at Burnley there were still loan windows within the Football League. Now, all transfers, be they permanent or loan, are window to window so as far as I know it wouldn't be possible for a player to go back and play for his parent club.
I suppose better examples, because we know they have additional games after we've finished, are Jeremy Sarmiento (Brighton) and Jaidon Anthony (Bournemouth).

I don't think it'd be an option regardless. It would be really foolish of Flemming to play for Millwall in case of getting serious injury. There's no way he'd take that risk

If it had been allowed it would have been interesting had we finished third, played Millwall in the playoffs without Flemming, lose, Flemming then plays for Millwall in the final and wins, winning promotion with Millwall despite not playing for them until the play off final, then having to be signed by us in the Championship due to a mandatory purchase option agreed with the initial loan.
