Golden Goal

Post by karatekid » Wed May 07, 2025 10:06 pm

It’s been a few years now since the Golden Goal rule ended. There was also a Silver Goal where a team that scored in the first period of extra time won after the first 15 minutes were up if the opponent hadn’t responded. Better than penalties? I’m not sure as a penalty shoot out is quite dramatic unless your the player that misses of course. Were Burnley ever involved in a cup game that could have potentially involved a Golden Goal?

I'm sure Kurt Nogan once won us a game with a golden goal but can't remember the game

I think we won away at Huddersfield in the League cup by either a silver or golden goal. Got a feeling Dimi Papadopoulos got the goal

Wigan knocked us out of the Auto Windscreens Shield with a golden goal in the late 90s.

For some reason I have it in my head that was the first ever golden goal?!

Oh hang on, it can't have been. Forget that

Won one and lost one with a golden goal

Crewe 1995/96 - Nogan
Wigan 1999/2000, lost 2-1 with their winner a golden goal
