When the new season begins.
Having secured promotion after a magnificent campaign orchestrated by Scott Parker, and a fantastic squad of players, I reckon all involved should be beyond criticism when the season begins in August.
I realise its a tall order on a Burnley site, but it just cannot be justified.
we would have to be a ruthless bunch to start slagging off our own for poor performances, poor tactics etc, when we all know fine well the odds are so stacked against us.
I cant recall so much media talk in previous seasons about how badly newly promoted teams do as is the case now.
But if we know the finances are tight, the competition is fierce, then there shouldnt be any surprises.
Staying afloat up there as we did under Dyche was nothing short of miraculous with hindsight.
I feel for Farke at Leeds and others who do what is asked of them, then when the jobs done, they are seen as somehow incapable , when the reality is they are up against giants in the finance stakes.
Last season was particularly bad seeing the derision our own players got, but thankfully their reputations are now deservedly high, Its going to be all hands to the pumps again, but I genuinely hope those involved in achieving success this time get a fair assessment from our supporters when inevitably city bang five past us sometime soon. UTC

Re: When the new season begins.
I had this conversation with a mate the other day, I said I was way too impatient with Parker in his first 3 or 4 months so he gets the same grace as Kompany from me now. I'm expecting an ultra hard season and if we drop I'd be more than happy to have him have another go at it. You can forgive lack of quality in the PL because of the finances but you know whoever pulls on the shirt will give 100% and that's all we can ask for.

In general this messageboard falls victim to negative opinions of a minority that shout the loudest
I find it never mirrors the reality on the turf and when talking to fans verbally
Majority of fans will understand the task and support this team if it’s not ripped up which I don’t think it will be

I think we all know this coming season will be difficult ,but one thing is certain we all want to see the Clarets do well and get behind the team , himm maybe Hutchy thinks otherwise.

Re: When the new season begins.
Parker and the team will get 100% support through the season IF (and its a big if) we keep most of the team together that got us there instead of ripping it up in previous seasons.
We’ve built an affinity and bond with this team that will keep us going through the tough times. That takes time and is part of the reason why there was apathy during the last PL and unrest at the start of this one because you’re watching a bunch of strangers on the pitch.

Re: When the new season begins.
I don't believe I was too impatient, just frustrated at the teams contentment to control the game without creating anything. I will always believe that we left points out on the pitch in all those 0-0 draws.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat May 10, 2025 1:43 amI had this conversation with a mate the other day, I said I was way too impatient with Parker in his first 3 or 4 months so he gets the same grace as Kompany from me now. That said, there is no doubt that SP and the players gave us an incredible season, from the awful summer window carnage. Everyone of them deserves our respect and support. It is going to be very hard but I believe Parkers 'style' has more chance of success than Kompanys. We need 1 or 2 new faces to give us the guile we need in the box, and in midfield a rock to complement our talent.
I'd also be happy to see SP stay on if we fail, but fingers crossed we won't.
As much as I'd like the fans to get behind the team, human nature and modern times means we will have some minority whinging even if we are sat mid table, inevitable. All we can do is drown them out.

Re: When the new season begins.
Unfortunately, it’s human nature to moan and whinge when things don’t seem to be going all your own way. Cast your minds back to when SP first came in. He stressed the importance of all sticking together, singing from the same song sheet, when, as he put it, “ there will be bumps in the road on this journey “. Again, how correct he was, the unity of the squad, coaching staff, everyone at the club, shone through, and got us over the line.
We now need exactly the same mentality again, probably even a little more, if that’s possible, and not to start calling for heads to roll, IF, things don’t pan out how we all want them to. The gap from top end of Championship to bottom end of Premier League is widening every season, with more clubs becoming established year on year. Can anyone honestly expect Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton, Fulham etc to be struggling?
It’s going to be really tough, but we can do it with unity.

Plus those in the loud minority tend to be proven wrong over time
Trafford is crap
Parker is crap
Pace is crap
And many more examples

Re: When the new season begins.
I think avoiding the matchday thread will be essential next season. Minute by minute slagging off of anyone making a mistake will be off the scale. It was bad enough at times in the 100 points season just finished.
A few defeats early on and God only knows how bad it will get!

Let’s wait and see who we sign/keep/sell during the summer. That will be the first test and probably the most important.

Hope most of the team remain and that Brownhill is still the captain.
Up the Clarets.

Lack of faith in the team that got you there is something VK got hopelessly wrong, imo.
I trust SP not to repeat that.

Re: When the new season begins.
Agree with the supportive mindset, but it has to be backed up with ambition and guile from the club.
Need to shed the "little Burnley" mentality and progress more, on and off the field. Not settling being 2nd best at any point.
That means from top to bottom across the organisation

Re: When the new season begins.
I think somebody on another thread said if we have 38 draws next season, we will probably stay up.
I think 36 0-0 draws (we have proved we can do this) and 2 wins against Leeds are eminently possible, giving us 42 points.
Southampton last night showed the correct tactics, let us emulate them.
