Lancs League 11/5
House away at Middleton without the services of the pro Dan Salpietro through illness. Blackrod pro Novad Paranavinithana stands in.
Middleton batting first are 22/0 from 5
Nice ground to be at in weather like this.

54/3 from 18. Middleton sub pro out lbw for a duck to the House sub pro trying to sweep him. Crazy shot.
This Sri Lankan looks a very tight bowler.

Re: Lancs League 11/5
Burnley tail wagged a bit 170/9 off 50. Not enough against Clutheroe batting but better than it looked T 90/6 !

Good score that from where they were. Burnleys bowling always gives them a chance.

Re: Lancs League 11/5
Looking at it purely points wise a Clitheroe win would probably be the best outcome. Would only be a 10 point win as they didn't bowl Burnley out.
Worst result is Burnley bowling Clitheroe out after Clitheroe get really close and capture bonus batting points. They both gain decent points then.
Long term a Clitheroe win is better too as I still see Burnley as the likelier to be up there at the end and any points buffer gained on them is useful.

Re: Lancs League 11/5
I watched the last 7 or 8 overs on the stream..which was watchable for a change. Burnley strangled Clitheroe I thought which is what they are good at. Clitheroe did make it look closer than it was in the last over but the few overs before that they were strangely unaggressive and seemed content to tap it about. Not quite the worst result as Burnley didn't get the bowling points. Still another 2pts gained I suppose.
Re: Lancs League 11/5
Lowerhouse finish the weekend top of the pack as deserved. Burnley scrape another 10pts. Taxis on way to pick the fans all up

Re: Lancs League 11/5
Burnley not playing well but beating the top of the league Thats an ominous sign for the rest of the league !! Clitheroe seemed more intent on stopping Burnley getting max points than on winning Weird

Re: Lancs League 11/5
Thats what i thought. Seemed keener to not get out rather than trying to get the runs needed until a half arsed attempt in the last over by Marcus Sharp.
I said when Burnley were looking in trouble that they only needed to get to a competitive total and their bowling will do the rest. Strangle the run chase. Done it several times in my memory.

Re: Lancs League 11/5
Interesting game at Rochdale against Darwen.
Rochdale posted exactly the same score as Burnley with 170/9 and Darwen then slumped to 95/8 before an unbroken ninth wicket partnership of 75 gave them a tie.
Some good news in Division 2 - East Lancs are bottom with minus one point.

Re: Lancs League 11/5
Tbf I was embellishing slightly. Colne stuttered a bit in the batting, and their 184 contained something like 44 extras (ridiculous!) which made it a competitive total on less than straightforward pitch. Hardwood's batting is a bit more fragile this season with Reece Willets having returned to Darwen, so it was never over until it was over. The dropped catch on the boundary which went for 6 close to the end was probably crucial.

East Lancs are in a real mess, which is a shame apart from the obvious Blackburn connection.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 11, 2025 10:24 pmInteresting game at Rochdale against Darwen.

In their heyday they always thought they were a cut above ( sounds like the football team I know), they always used to turn up in shirt and club ties, had a committee that traveled with the team etc and referred to their home ground as "headquarters". It was always nice to beat them..
People may not understand though just how much of a mess they're in, I got a call, along with other ex players from other clubs to see if id consider playing for them for a season and coming out of retirement. They couldn't afford to pay a pro as such, and are in serous financial difficulties. I think the ethnic make up of their club, and it's location is certainly causing an issue as very few players support the club off the field so I'm told, and they struggle to get functions at their club now. Add that to the fact that they've always been poorly supported and it's easy to see why things aren't great..
Re: Lancs League 11/5
You're right, the place is a mess too. They have no revenue stream at all, due to the make up of their club there's nobody spending money on the bar, hardly anyone watching. I struggle to see how they'll continue at that level for much longerAndreshotboots wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 11:10 amEast Lancs are in a real mess, which is a shame apart from the obvious Blackburn connection.

Re: Lancs League 11/5
Do East Lancs still have the Squash Courts? They will take up a lot of room there but i imagine the residents would put the kibosh on any noisy events there anyway
