Trent booed by Liverpool fans
Trent booed by Liverpool fans
I see a lot of media talk about this, I don’t think non local fans will ever really get it. Thoughts?
I think he’s a traitor and the fans were right to boo. He’s engineered a snakey move to Madrid for a while, he was seen signing fans’ Real Madrid shirts, intentionally ran down his contract to leave on a free.
Poor from a born Scouser and sums up the lack of loyalty in modern day football. Winning 1 or 2 more PL trophies with Liverpool should eclipse anything he could achieve ever at Madrid. Look what happened to Owen and Mcmanaman.
Part of the same reason I’ll never class Jay Rodriguez/Chaplow as some Burnley local legends, never showed the club any kind of loyalty and jumped ship at the first opportunity.

Alternatively, he signed a contract, stayed for the duration of the contract, and then exercised his right to leave at the end of the contract.
Which part of contract law don't you understand or want to change?
Liverpool's booing fans are halfwits.

Since when has moving from 1 “euro superclub” to another at the end of your contract been anything new ? Would have thought he’d been loyal enough tbh . Quite surprised even modern day prem fans would boo him though
Though the Steven Gerrard Chelsea “ move” was probs all you ever needed to know about scousers .

Re: Trent booed by Liverpool fans
Well I didn’t accuse him of breaking the law, did I?
More of a question, should a born Liverpool fan who the club has made a multi millionaire not show a little more loyalty to his local club? Or should he be held to the same standard as a foreign signing.

A lovely chance for sad old blokes to let us know how they feel about scousers.
I think it's pretty shitty of Alexander-Arnold and don't think booing him is unfair. Don't think it's comparable to players leaving us because that's necessary to move upwards in your career, this isn't.

Re: Trent booed by Liverpool fans
I don't agree with the booing of Trent , I actually think it's pathetic. But how on Earth can you compare him to Jay and Chaplow ? They both went for what at the time was big money for us and we needed it at the time. They actually helped us out.

Re: Trent booed by Liverpool fans
There's nothing wrong with him leaving, but he hasn't helped himself by allowing the media frenzy.
There's been speculation all season about him going to Madrid, and whether he'd sign a new contract, along with Salah and VVD.
As fans it's the hope that kills you, will he, won't he. Is it dependent on winning the league. He should have come out months ago and said along the lines it's been brilliant, a privilege, but at his age the opportunities don't last forever blah, blah, blah.
He'd still have been leaving, but he wouldn't have got the abuse he received yesterday.

If anything is shows how narrow minded and tribal foodtall fans can be and Liverpool more so than others as fans of the top clubs don't think there is anywhere better.
No one knows what's gone on but they could have sold him and made profit but he's stayed and they have won the league.
He want's to try something new and go an play in another country and for me .... more English players need to do it.
He's a Liverpool fan and have given many years to them - He wants a new challenge and should be wished the best - Booing him is ridiculous
Fan's want loyalty yet 5 bad performances in a row and any player is hammered and told to 'get out of our club' ....

Nearest comparison for Burnley would the way JBG messed us about last summer and ditched us for the Saudi's when he got a whiff of their money. I think there would definitely be some Burnley fans who would boo him if he ever came back to the Turf and whilst I dont think thats right I can understand why they would do it.

If Ings was born a Burnley fan and did what he did I think he’d get booed.
downed tools mid way through the PL season, bottled that crucial penalty. Saw us relegated then ****** off on a free transfer out of the back door. That’s after the club had spent a sizeable fee on signing him as a young kid and standing by him through several big injuries.
The huge difference being he’s not born here so shouldn’t be held to the same standard as local players imo

'Traitor' for honouring his contract, apparently.
Brain rot is real - why isn't he allowed to go somewhere new for a fresh challenge? It's up to Liverpool to either sell him or offer him improved terms to keep him.
"You'll never walk alone," they say - yeah, right.

Well considering the topic is about do we expect some kind of loyalty from a local born fan I’m not sure any of those names really fit the bill.dsr wrote: ↑Mon May 12, 2025 11:58 amBen Mee and James Tarkowski are the ones you really want to have a go at, if you genuinely want to make an exhibition of yourself. Brownhill however, now there’s a man who’s shown the club loyalty and will go down in the history books. Last year of his contract and could’ve easily forced a move, signed with another team in January but nope, produced his best performances of his career whilst wearing the captains armband.

The club offered him a contract for a set length of time. TAA honoured his part of the deal and gave his best for the club during the contracted period. Sadly, Liverpool fans are too thick to understand this.

Fans want players (especially the local ones) to behave like fans. TAA knows exactly the situation he’s bringing on himself as he’s had Owen and McManaman as examples. I think the big difference here is that he could have gone to RM earlier and Liverpool received a fee. The booing Liverpool fans view will be would Real Madrid have bought him and matched his wage designs, or did he have to run out his contract to satisfy his greed?
Re: Trent booed by Liverpool fans
Don't you mean Alexander? Which is coincidentally on thread.
Those booing him probably have a similar mentality to those who felt that Kompany should have turned the Bayern job as he still had a job to do at Burnley.

Re: Trent booed by Liverpool fans
The alternate reality is he's won everything he can with Liverpool (Premier League x2, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Super Cup, Club World Cup... even the Community Shield) and has nothing left to prove! Going to Real Madrid gives him a fresh challenge, and will undoubtedly make him a better player for England. Anyone Liverpool fans booing him want to give their heads a wobble.

VVD and Salah did exactly the same as Trent. The difference is Trent was wanted by Real and the other 2 weren’t. They let there stories drag on and on. Trent signed a contract, performed, won trophies. But “isn’t” loyal. Okay. Gerrards name was sung yesterday. For his loyalty. You mean talking to Chelsea whist under contact and holding Liverpool for ransom for an improved deal.
On the flip side. Where was Liverpools loyalty to all those youngsters that got let go when Trent signed professionally? Can’t have it both ways.

Re: Trent booed by Liverpool fans
I thought it was pathetic personally and yet another example of how the media whip football fans into a frenzy when these things happen.
What happens if Liverpool had decided a season or 2 ago that he wasn't good enough? They'd have sold him like a contracted commodity, which essentially footballers are. They would have shown no loyalty to him and he would have been bounced out of the club had they wanted to.
A player has a short career at the highest level (10 to 15 years for outfield players in the main) and if he wants to go and play in a different league, experience a different culture, broaden his horizons, raise a family elsewhere and all whilst playing for one of the biggest, most successful clubs on the planet than he has every right to do so!
He has been at Liverpool since he was 6 years old. He has lived in and around Liverpool / the north west his entire life and has committed his entire career to the club, including this season. He hasn't downed tools, he has honoured his contract and he owes Liverpool nothing. They paid him for a service which he duly provided and provided to the best of his ability - something which brought his employers success, silverware and (most importantly to those writing his pay cheques) increased revenue.
Fans have been duped by commentators in all forms of the media into thinking what he was doing were the actions of a snake. There's no way on earth VVD or Salah would have been booed had they announced their intention to leave at the end of the season, in the same way that Kevin de Bruyne isn't at Manchester City. TAA's issue is that he is leaving at a young age, is a local lad and is leaving to join one of Liverpool's biggest European rivals. He has done nothing wrong. Did Steven Gerrard get booed when he was leaving to head off to the MLS for the big pay day? No. A player who lifted the hem of his skirt in Chelsea's direction, fans would do well to recall.
So what if he has signed a Real Madrid shirt or two? He's probably signed autographs for fans of many, many, many clubs down the years - does it matter? My lad has a signed Tom Heaton shirt that he signed for him whilst he was an Aston Villa player. So what?
Fans have been brain-washed into thinking he's a weasel, a snake or (hysterically) a traitor. He isn't. He's a young football plying his trade who has decided to go and do this somewhere else, as is his want, in the same way that if Liverpool had decided to sell him during his contract they would have. End of story.

It just shows that Liverpool fans have zero class. They boo a local lad who has worked his socks off for them, won just about every honour he could for the club and now wants a new challenge in the most glamorous club on the planet. They should have sung his name from the rooftops.

Many on here disagree with the OP. It’s a up for debate.
I am with sausage and jlup done everything and won everything with his boyhood club. A fantastic achievement.
A massive decision on his future I am sure he has gone back and forth about the decision, but seriously it’s Real Madrid, the greatest European side there is. Not Saudi. If he had any doubts about the decision I sure he has been vindicated by hearing the boo’s yesterday.
Halfwits indeed, the only thing loyal to a club is the fans, but only when it suits.
Carragher getting on his high horse with his media platform, not fit to lace Trent’s boots that clown.
Vamos Trent.

A fan of a club who’s been on the inside of that club at the sharp end for 20 years will have a vastly different experience of that club to the fans in the stands, and the idea that won’t colour how they think about it is frankly delusional.
