Joey Jones RIP
Ex Liverpool, Chelsea and Wrexham has died aged 70. Great player for the 1970s Liverpool side. I remember a game at Wrexham, Jones is on the near post defending a corner. My mate shouts Joey Jones you're a w***er. Cheers mate replies Joey.
Re: Joey Jones RIP
Sad news. He was a good fb and you had to be good to play for Liverpool then.

Re: Joey Jones RIP
Always a better player than many of us would probably have thought, but you had to be to play in Paisley's Liverpool side. He was the sort of player supporters could hang their hats on, always 100% total commitment.
Wasn't it 1977 when they first won the European Cup. Having beaten French and Swiss teams, that famous banner at the final which read: "Joey at the Frogs Legs, made the Swiss roll, now he's munching Gladbach."
Only 70 too, sad news.

Re: Joey Jones RIP
I remember him collecting the ball for a throw-in on the Bob Lord and someone yelling “Jones you’re crap!”
He looked up smiled, and shouted back; “I must be you lot are trying to sign me.”
Saw him play a good few times at the back end of his career, a real character and quality player who loved playing football (and kicking other players) RIP Joey Jones

Re: Joey Jones RIP
Sad news, I think he was just one of those players who loved the game ..
Three spells at Wrexham, for whom he signed as a 16 year old, debut in 1973, and finished his career there, retiring at the end of the 1991-92 season. He played against us in our 2-6 away win at Wrexham that season, notable for Graham Lancashire announcing himself with a hat-trick !!

Re: Joey Jones RIP
I once stood near him in his coaching days at "Colliers Park" (Wrexham's training ground at the time) watching a Burnley youth team play Wrexham. He was giving one of his team some stick and got a mouthful back. He went mad and threatened to wash the players mouth out with soap if he did it again. Dean Saunders was nearby and was laughing his head off. RIP Joey.

Re: Joey Jones RIP
Retired end of 91/92 season, so I wonder if his last professional game was at Burnley.
