Re: From the Bee Hole End podcast…
The secret is out! We've got a very special interview with Jimmy Mullen going out on Friday.
It's all down to James McDonough and Paul Coppack who travelled down to South Wales to spend an afternoon in Jimmy's company. It's a big old episode but so much brilliant stuff from Jimmy about his time at Burnley, his career and modern football.
Definitely not one to be missed!

Looking forward to listening to this. I know the club wanted him back for the Millwall game but he was worried about the reception he’d get which is a shame as it would have been rightfully a standing ovation.

He’s always said the same when invited back. I know he left at a time when things weren’t good but we’ve moved on from that and surely the fans would remember him as the manager of that 1991/92 promotion team.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 6:55 pmLooking forward to listening to this. I can't think of a former manager who would get a better reception at the Turf than Jimmy.

With all the "managers name" claret & Blue army songs , nothing fits better than Jimmy Mullens Claret & Blue Army.

Nostalgia and age I guess. But even the Stan days I never held in the same regard. And I was of an age where I could ‘enjoy’ it too. So not entirely. Not to say the Stan times weren’t great for that period in the middle.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Tue Jul 22, 2025 9:30 pmI’m sure age (older!) plays a part but as you say special times!

That was so out of order, and nobody deserves their family getting dragged into crap no matter how bad things were going. I always feel like Jimmy could never quite forgive 'us' for that.

Re: From the Bee Hole End podcast…
James doesn't have an account on here but has asked me to share the following:
"Just want to say what a privilege it was to go down and meet Jimmy himself.
How the opportunity came about is a typically long story. But a funny one. And an opportunity we had to create / take.
But in short I was working in London and met a customer who was from Swansea. Queue the typical football ice breaker ‘Ah Swansea, we have a player that you will love - Conor Robert’s!’
Are you from Burnley? My colleague's uncle is Jimmy Mullen! Work was dropped. I insisted they put me in touch and reassured them he was an absolute legend in these parts.
At this point had no idea what we were going to do. The halftime draw didn’t seem like he would get the recognition or reception he deserves. And everything else would be a big exercise to pull together while the opportunity was hot.
So got in touch and asked if he would be interested in doing a podcast. And to my delight, he agreed! The only problem is. I don’t even have a podcast.
So I got in touch with my mate Paul who filmed the ‘Blackburn manager prank’. And we head on the near 600 mile round trip to meet Jimmy and film the whole thing. And we have passed the content over to the lads at the From The Bee Hole End podcast as they have a great platform to broadcast it on.
I won’t give anything away. But I will say ahead of setting off my only nervousness was around the old ‘dont meet your hero’s’. I neednt have worried. Jimmy was an absolute gentlemen. Could not speak highly enough of his time at the club and didn’t have a single bad word to say about anyone. He was actually genuinely surprised when I suggested Burnley fans still love him. And there were times during the interview and especially off camera he was genuinely moved.
His wife was also amazing. Their hospitality and reception was superb. And it was a pleasure to see him so healthy and happy!
We spent several hours in their company. And the footage when released this Friday is a must watch for any Burnley fans who were around during those fantastic days. And equally for anyone who weren’t to understand where we came from.
Thanks again Paul for filming (and as always ready to take a call from me with my latest daft idea), Andrew and the lads at the podcast for allowing us to use their platform to share it.

I think there is certainly less concern from Jimmy about coming up now. It's all about logistics but I think there's a bit more hope now that it might happen.Yorkshirelad wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 10:50 amThe first thing the club need to do is get Jimmy on the turf at halftime There again if he did come on the pod you could always breach the subject
Certainly James has shared some of the comments we've got on Twitter about the forthcoming episode with Jimmy and his wife and they're bowled over by them. I don't think he quite realised how much Burnley fans hold him in high esteem - but he does now!

Re: From the Bee Hole End podcast…
91/92 was a special season. It was the one that got me hooked. Conroy, Francis, Eli, et al. What a team. We played some brilliant football, and I still have memories of being at various away games, most notably Mansfield and Carlisle. I was 11/12 years old and had been going on the Turf for a few years by that point, but this was the season where it all really started. It would be great to see Jimmy on the Turf again. He'd get a heroes welcome, quite rightly.
On a sidenote, and much more recently, my son had been coming on with me for a couple of years before he got the bug. Ironically, at the same age I experienced Jimmy's season, he experienced Kompany's Championship season. The bug has bitten again. For him it's Tella, Zaroury, Benson though!

To be fair, creating another account because he can't access his original one seems quite a logical thing to do. Maybe worth doing the logical thing and unbanning one or deleting the others.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jul 23, 2025 1:05 pmHe does have an account on here. In regards to Mullen let's hope the rection to the podcast will be enough to encourage him to set foot on the turf again in the future.

I had a brief chat with Jimmy about 20 years ago when playing against his Bromsgrove Rovers side. Brought a smile when I told him I was a Claret after the game. Be nice to see him back at the Turf.

Re: From the Bee Hole End podcast…
Those seasons in the early nineties were incredible. I’d seen us sink through divisions from when I first went on the Turf in 77. I missed our lowest point as I was away in the Forces. When I was out and back living in Manchester in 91 it meant regular trips home & away. Jimmy Mullen was architect of me falling back in Love with Burnley.
Football is different now, not saying it’s better or worse, certainly a lot safer now. We were tribal during that time, the football was progressive, the fan base was activated, it was an incredible time for us to rejuvenate the club.
I’d go further, it was the start of rejuvenating the town. I still see plenty of people slagging off the town (never mind the club!), and I know we had some dark times. However Burnley coming back into the nation’s conscience by climbing back ip the leagues eventually made us be noticed.
Mullen started that, He made us believe again, then he delivered. Out of the darkness into the light. “Jimmy Mullen’s Claret and Blue Army.”
