Landscape Gardener Recommendations

Post by Goalkeeper » Fri Jul 25, 2025 10:51 am

Anyone recommend a good gardener for a reasonable existing garden, that needs more imagination. I know they are all busy, so I'm not in any rush for the work to start.

Whereabouts are you based? Also can you be more specific about exactly what’s required, just trying to gauge if it’s a days job or a week(s) etc.

Burnley based. The garden needs about 10, 8ft conifers removing, and few medium sized shrubs as well. Replacing flags with Indian stone or similar, improving a concrete area, probably with Indian stone again. Plus a new fence to replace the conifers, and a wrought iron gate fitting. We are also open to ideas for the remaining lawn area. Maybe a weeks work at most I would have thought.
We are just buying the house, probably get the keys late August, and the interior renovation team will start Ocober time. So the job can commence early September, or October. Either suits us.

Goalkeeper. All noted. I used a local Landscape garden firm about 4 months ago -3 man team, they used a small digger to remove 11- 50 year old conifers, I wanted the roots out not just the stumps cutting down, they then removed 5 ton of soil and debris, took delivery of new soil/ compost and then planted up new conifers with a large bed in front using large sleepers, then placed my limestone rockery stone to form a rockery bed. Although they’re currently Skipton based the owner - main man- Matthew is/was about to move to trawden to larger premises. I know like all gardeners they’re very busy but they might be worth contacting to see if they’ll give you ideas and a quote. Obviously I can only go on what they did for me, all very obliging and good time keepers. It’s best you get a few quotes but if you want to contact them here are the details.

Hope you get sorted with someone and good luck in the new house.

Probably the best you'll get around Burnley.

Thank you Beddie for your response and recommendation. I will give them a ring. What was an approximate cost for the work you had done? I'm just trying to budget for a big renovation cost on the house, plus the garden.

We paid around £3k which included a small jcb type digger and taking away all the conifers, roots and all, 5 ton of soil, a large load of builder’s rubble which they dug up they took it away using a large low loader trailer (4 loads). Delivered 5 ton of new specially fine filtered top soil that was mixed with a speciality compost. We had to wait 6 months due to their work load. I thought originally it would be about £2 to £2.5k but I’m out of touch with these sort of things. Try and get a few quotes if you can.
