Sofa/Suite Advice
My old sofa is currently sat on the drive having finally been able to get it out through the door this afternoon. Don't worry, I've still somewhere to sit but I'm now about to look for a new sofa/chairs etc.
It's a long time since I bought one, does anyone have any good advice on where to start looking in our area?
It will be needed once some work is done by the decorator (recommended by burnmark) and the carpet fitter (recommended by CTID). That's why I always ask on this board.

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
We trapsed round everywhere and ended up getting it from DFS at Preston docks.

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
Even if you buy from the big chains, try to get one that is made in the UK by a reputable company (ask questions).
For what it’s worth, our very recently purchased sofa from Sofology was made by Buoyant Upholstery in Nelson.

The one I'm throwing out was made by Buoyant but it has lasted a lot, lot longer than I imagine it was expected to. I've had no complaints about it, just at the end of its life now.

Got my last 2 sofas from Next. Happy with them, but we did go to a Next Home store first to recce.

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
Brand Interiors in Crawshawbooth used to be pretty decent
They stock ex Marks and Spencer’s, Habitat and few other good brands at discounted prices. Quality and service always been really good when I used them - might take a bit of luck or a couple of visits to find what you want as they are regularly changing stock.
Shackletons over in clitheroe and Loom Loft off the A59 are both also good with loads of choice but more expensive than Brand Interiors or the large sofa chains like DFS.
Obviously all depends on what you are looking for, budgets etc

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
Burnley have one upstairs but not many sofas. However if you time it right at Next and manage to get it in the sale they can be great prices for really nice sofas

Taskers in accrington has some good stuff , you can peruse their website, though for sale stuff you’ll need to pop in store.

They’re very well made and supply a lot of the independent and higher-end chains.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 27, 2025 8:42 pmThe one I'm throwing out was made by Buoyant but it has lasted a lot, lot longer than I imagine it was expected to. We’re based in Skipton but we got ours a couple of years ago from Taskers at Accrington. We trailed round the DFS CFC etc etc stores and found they weren’t the quality we were looking for. We’ve since been back to Taskers for some furnishings. The service and delivery etc is excellent. Very competitive and privately owned.

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
We went to the Trafford Centre home store, and i think there is one at Preston. Once i found a settee i liked i rang a couple of shops to see if they had one - luckily they did have one in Burnley just by the door one time. Good luck with your search sadly local furniture stores are a thing of the past

Raj upholstery in Waterfoot. He’s a lot of choice in his showroom. They do deliveries. I’ve used him for years and he will give you a good deal. Might help you, if you mentioned my name and said I’d recommended him to you.

There’s a big Next Home store in Horwich on the retail park next to the Wanderers ground. They have a good selection of suites in store.

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
I got one from Next at Freeport in Fleetwood, as they sell off ex-display models there. Mine was ridiculously cheap (over half price) and not a mark on it. Obviously they only have what is available on the day, but they always have some nice sofas.

All depends on what you want
We’ve bought 2 sofas in last 2yrs
1 for the main living room from Pendle Village Mill and another from the Sofa Superstore (next to Sainsbury’s) for the dining room
Both were really good to deal with with quick turn around

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
Sofas from Next are great. Can take a while to manufacture if you want one in a certain colour/fabric though - waited 3 months for my last one!

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
We got ours from Sofa Club - lovely sofa and fast delivery time but not the best customer service experience. The blokes who delivered it broke the sofa and scratched paintwork so we had to get a new one sent out.
Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
Got mine from Pendleside Hospice shop in Burnley. Saved myself a fortune on a new one and contributed towards a wonderful cause.

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
Vale upholstery in Mytholmroyd is a long-established British manufacturer with a good reputation. I bought our first sofa from them almost 50 years ago and it was virtually bombproof. We only changed it because fashions changed. Our current one is made in the UK by Alstons. We chose it from a showroom and then went on line and saved will over 200 quid. It has been re-covered recently and the guy who did it said it was as sound as the day it was made. I think you might be able to buy direct from Buoyant if you know someone who works there or ask "nicely". We have a couple of armchairs from next as well. They are OK, but the quality doesn't really compare.

Re: Sofa/Suite Advice
Bought my first sofa/suite at Taskers when I got married in 1969. Brilliant that they are still in business. We’re in Accrington if I remover correctly !! They lasted longer than the marriage lol

I just make my own from scratch so we can have any size and colours , been married now 37 years and in that time we must have had at least 25 different sofas and chairs , been an upholsterer for 46 years ( I did all the players changing rooms at Gawthorpe ) I’d stay clear of DFS though ( Dear F@€#%n Sh1t)

Look no further than Taskers. We bought three pieces from there four years ago when we moved to Tyneside. All excellent quality and value, and they shipped them up to us for £35!

If you fancy a short trip over into Yarkshire ( no spelling mistake ) take a look at Wilsden Suite Centre .We bought our suite from them..a G Plan and its been great..they're very keen on their prices so if you've seen something you like try them for a quote . Plenty of info on the net .Quality service too .
