It's a while since I did maths, but 2 x 19 doesnt really come to nearly 27.

Good luck to him. Great keeper with a huge ceiling.
Can’t really say I ever warmed to him for whatever reason so in some ways pleased we get this done and can start a new chapter.
Hopefully provides some cash to start strengthening the squad.

He was always going to leave this summer so glad this deal is done, and for a decent fee.
Re: ARTICLE: Trafford rejoins Manchester City
We paid £14m potentially rising to 19m, seeing as we got relegated and he’s yet to play for England it’s unlikely he ever met any other the potential bonus payments

Re: ARTICLE: Trafford rejoins Manchester City
£31m seems a good fee for a lad who hasn’t yet had a good season in a top tier.
He’s got the mentality of a top goalkeeper I think. You could see that last season. His mind games vs Sunderland was something you’d expect from a much older goalkeeper.
I think he’ll go on to have a career at the very top of the game.

Re: ARTICLE: Trafford rejoins Manchester City
You didn't warm to him after last season?
Good grief.
Re: ARTICLE: Trafford rejoins Manchester City
Glad to have it confirmed as at one point it had all the hallmarks of being one that dragged on until the last few days.
At least there is certainty now in terms of what we need to bring and hopefully how much there is to spend on bringing them in. This season is going to be one hell of a task though for Parker having lost three of his very best players now. It’s a hard enough task as it is before losing your best players.
Best of luck to him at City. Be interesting to see if he actually plays some games this season.

If we can sign Sam Johnstone for shy of £10 mill then that would represent decent business.agreenwood wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 7:34 pm£31m seems a good fee for a lad who hasn’t yet had a good season in a top tier.

The difference between how two clubs go about there business.
I know there was always a chance Trafford would go back to City but this only broke last week in earnest.
Newcastle meanwhile have fannied around for God knows how long (allegedly) which low bids and have now got their fingers burnt.
Anyway, good luck James Trafford.

We've lost 3 of our most important players and only one was for a fee. I'm all for looking for the positives but struggling at the moment.
How many clubs have been promoted, lost 3 of their best players and then stayed up? I'm going to take a guess at not many.

Has to be one of Burnleys most interesting and bizarre signings.
Obviously good but not nurtured in his first season, then made to look a superstar by S Parker.
Wish him well & a great piece of business by Burnley.

Perhaps you should wait until you've seen them, and anyone else we bring in play, before you call things a disaster?
Just a thought.

Esteve ought to be considered at least on a level with JT, JB, and CJER. Keeping him is massive when set against what we’ve lost.Goliath wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 7:46 pmWe've lost 3 of our most important players and only one was for a fee. If the window shut tonight, you’d be quite correct in labelling it as a disaster. Very few teams come up, lose their best players, and stay up as you say. We’ve got a month though to get some huge signings in.

There wasn't much we could do about Egan-Riley and Brownhill leaving and we were never going to turn down a record fee for Trafford.Goliath wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 7:46 pmWe've lost 3 of our most important players and only one was for a fee. Always felt like he never wanted to be here. Especially after the fans desperately wanted Muric back in. He was fantastic last season though and is a massive loss. Just a shame he’s gone back to that dreadful club. Just need a replacement now. UTC.

jamestrafford Burnley... what an incredible club! Over the past two years, l've had an amazing time, filled with experiences l'll never forget and lessons l'll always carry with me. I'm so grateful for it all.
The lads are truly one of a kind, every day brought something to enjoy, from cricket and darts to playing the Traitors and making memories that will last a lifetime, both on and off the pitch. Every single member of staff across every department contributed to the special spirit we had as a club, and I'm lucky to have made friendships for life in that building.
To the fans, thank you for the unforgettable moments.
Good or bad, they all gave me learning, joy, and memories that will stick with me forever.
And finally, to both managers, thank you for the belief you showed in me, for allowing me to be myself, and for helping me grow into the player and person I am today.
You've helped prepare me for the next step.
Wishing the club all the best for the season ahead. I'll be watching and can't wait to see you all again.
Shoutout @tebbsmy absolute hero who helped me so closely through the lows and the highs. My absolute hero xx

Re: ARTICLE: Trafford rejoins Manchester City
The maths on this deal really doesn’t add up.
The buy back fee that Manchester City signed a contract for two years ago was £42m, I believe. Even if you take 20% off that figure (the figure Manchester City stood to receive if Trafford was
sold to another club) you’re left with £33.6m….
I don’t understand why we would agree to sell him back to that lot for £27m given the above.
There surely has to be sweeteners coming our way from Manchester City.

Re: ARTICLE: Trafford rejoins Manchester City
The buyback fee of £42m was never stated anywhere officially, who knows what it was? It seems City had a matching offer clause, where they had 3 days to match another clubs offer. Newcastle offered £31m and they matched it. It’s £31m+ add ons taking it to £35m. We owe City £3.2m which is why some sources have quoted the fee at £27m.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 8:07 pmThe maths on this deal really doesn’t add up.

The buy back fee was quoted quite clearly by ‘reputable’ journos when we bought him a three times what we paid. The initial outlay from us was £14m.RVclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 8:10 pmThe buyback fee of £42m was never stated anywhere officially, who knows what it was? Great bit of business. We bought a fantastic prospect for £14m, sold him for £31m, and in the last year we smashed every defensive record with 30 clean sheets thanks to James. Well done to Pace and the Board.
We really are a very lucky club to have had Heaton, Pope, Hart and Trafford as GK's in the last 10 years. Not many PL clubs can boast this calibre
