Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
Its a typical pre season for a promoted club scrapping around just to try and assemble a team/squad to be competitive - thats different to assembling a team/squad to win multiple games.
The best effort a promoted team has done over the past 2 seasons in the premiership is 28 points so we know the gap just gets wider.
Can think of anyone looking forward to VAR but who knows.
Seeing genuine world class players ? Salah, Van Diyk and Haaland - after that ? Rice, Palmer, Foden, Isak those types maybe.
Last season was so exciting chasing down Leeds to virtually the last kick of the season - dunno it is like a rollercoaster ride that you can't get off being a yoyo club.

Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
Yeah , I am .
I’m expecting every game to be a tactical battle , the last time we were here we were annihilated by better managers laughing at our gung ho approach. .we’ll see ,but with a proper centre forward and a good keeper we should be ok , I think .

We are still either chasing Leeds, or hopefully trying to stay ahead.
Same applies to Sunderland, West Ham, Everton, Brentford, Bournemouth and Wolves.
Newcastle, Forest, Villa, Spurs, Brighton and Fulham. I am expecting at least one of these to have a disappointing season

VAR is the least of my worries
Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
Yes definitely looking forward to it. I’m excited to see how we line up and how we adapt to a massive challenge.
I just hope we’re competitive because it’s no fun whatsoever come November onwards and you’re fully expecting to lose every single game. I was desperate for the 23/34 season to end not long after it started and I won’t want to feel like that again.

I am but I would be looking forward to it even more if we signed a powerful, athletic midfielder and at least one good or possibly two strikers.

Looking forward to it? Yes
Think we'll go down? Yes
Worried it'll become very obviously too much for us very early on? Yes
As bad as last time? No
Much more resolute and make us much prouder? 100% yes

Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
Excited yes but it’s a completely different mentality. Championship means I want draws to turn into wins, plus praying that we don’t lose to that lot down the road. The PL is praying for some draws and not to get embarrassed by the likes of man city and Liverpool.

I said it before but for me, it's one of those 'free hits' in that realistically we'll go down, so it's about trying to enjoy the season as much as you can. But we do have some very good players with more to come in, so who knows?

Be great if regardless of results we all take that realistic free hit mentality and every game particularly home game we take a lesson say from Crystal Palace who's home crowd seems partizan no matter whats going on.

Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
I think I will answer that question after 5 games in
Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
Slightly, I think we are a long way off at the moment and Scott needs 3-4 first team players which is a big ask. Beyer Tresor Ramsey are all big question marks, Zeki won’t be seen now and we have too many who couldn’t make a good enough contribution a level down last season for various reasons. Walker & Hartmann are great signings however.
Our style and the defence give us half a chance and the other 2 promoted clubs don’t have that, however at this stage their business is better than ours.
I feel this is an opportunity season. Brentford have gaping holes, wolves have lost their best 2 players, Everton have lost 10 and barely signed anyone, West Ham look no better, have lost Kudus and soon Paqueta. There are absolutely teams there for the taking but I can’t see where the goals are coming from at this stage.
We have far more of a chance than 2 years ago.

Looking forward to football in general but in terms of our progression it's difficult to align optimism whilst the club is saddled down with that much debt restricting any sort of pathway forwards.

Even without debt I doubt we'd have the clout to buy survival.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 8:49 pmLooking forward to football in general but in terms of our progression it's difficult to align optimism whilst the club is saddled down with that much debt restricting any sort of pathway forwards.
I just hope we put up a decent fight, preferably without attempting to buy survival with money we don't have.

Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
As impactful as the debt is that we are continually kicking the can down the road with loans with obligations to buy, yes you get the loan but then it’s taking a chunk out of the budget each year without improving the team. Beyer, Tresor, Flemming, Antony, Humphries, Edward’s etc. Spending £30m a year to just keep the team together.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 8:58 pmEven without debt I doubt we'd have the clout to buy survival.

Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
It's not that long ago that our club stayed afloat by selling our best player, a mid table championship (2nd division) finish was a result, such relief at not getting relegated once more because we never knew if we would make it back up again. So I'm absolutely looking forward to our small town club with limited resources back in the big league...again! Unbelievable how we've kept doing it.

IF present history repeats itself though "collasping" teams might only need 29 points it would have to be a massive collapse unfortunately.

Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
I’m optimistic. The transfer window isn’t closed so we don’t even know what players we have. But it’s hard to predict the spirit / the bond of a team. Don’t start spreading negativity before the season gets underway.

Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
As Sean Dyche always said, previous results have absolutely no bearing on the next game. The transfer market is still open and I believe we have a nice mix of youth and experience with lots of lower PL quality in our ranks.kenyon6923 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 01, 2025 9:44 pmIF present history repeats itself though "collasping" teams might only need 29 points it would have to be a massive collapse unfortunately.
Some decent transfer activity already completed, lots of outbound makeweights still to move on and there are genuine hopes of bringing in a striker (or 2), goalkeeper (not my biggest worry to be honest), and a defensive midfielder at least.

Yes, it means I've made it through another year of my life, something that others are less fortunate to have been able to do.

Not sure why someone tried to make things seem down re debt, unless you have the money to put in to the club, for me its not something I can do anything about so not something I worry about.
Ive seen, as a lot of people on here The Clarets as one of the best clubs in English football, down to the bottom almost going out of the league and back up, and honestly have never thought anything but looking forward to the start of the season to quote a famous saying '''Some people think football is a matter of life and death. Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
Seems the bookies have us down as favourites for 20th now. Maybe the lower expectations amongst rivals and our own fans will suit us. We were never fancied under Dyche and in the end, it created a bit of ‘us against them’ unity for the entire club. I’m looking forward to that, in a way, as well as having a manager who will focus on defence first.

Always look forward to a new season. It’s going to be tough but our defence, on paper, looks great. Just need to see a strong, experienced number one and a big, physical midfielder to come in.

That might be true regarding the debt but you can't really escape the fact that's what's holding progress back & ultimately the difference between buying old & injured players & young & fit 1s.pureclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 02, 2025 9:45 amYes I am I always do fresh start, new highs to look for perhaps the odd blip

To be fair if I try to imagine myself as a neutral, there's no way Burnley wouldn't be 18th-20th in my prediction list. We have it all to do, but I think we have the right squad and manager to give it a really good go.

Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
I'd be looking forward to it more if I knew more of the squad as our players.
I looked at the squad numbers released by the club the other day and wondered how they had earned the right to be playing for BFC in the top division of the football league.
Perhaps it was better when we only changed a few faces and we knew who our mumber eleven on the wing was because we had been watching them for years.

I’m in Ireland, the Spurs and Utd away games are going to be televised - so that’s great for me.
We’re not going to pull up any trees, we’re likely going to be a dull side to watch, but I think we’ll give it a better go than last-time.

Re: Is everyone looking forward to the season ?
Confident! (Of being 17th)
We have the advantage that we played as an effective unit last season and for me established teamwork is more important than Leeds or Sunderland buying 12 new players and having to start all over again.
We’ve replaced CJ with Walker, we WILL replace Trafford, Esteve has signed somewhat of a new contract, and for me, Browny probably wouldn’t have been that impactful in the Prem.
